I can't help it. I'm not a misanthrope. I like people of all stripes. I have ability, talent and a fine education which means I'm not shit my pants scared of people who aren't exactly like me, as you are.

2) How is your daughter doing? Is she back home? Hope all is well with her and your grandkid.

1. I grew up equating blacks who remained in the south to slaves who never left the plantation. That was too harsh perhaps, but today I do recognize some of the reasons that drove them to stay .. not the least of which is a desire to stay close to family.

2. Much love for you brother in thinking of my daughter and granddaughter. :0) My daughter is a Master Sergeant now and words cannot express how proud I am of her. Against the odds, she excelled beyond expectations. Her daughter is beautiful and on her way back here as her mother goes on tour.

I have another 3 year-old granddaughter who lives with me as her mother is off to college.

I'm good my friend, hope you are yours are doing well. :0)

I am doing well too. Hope she remains safe on her next tour, along with those she serves with. Have fun with your granddaughters. Try not to let them wear you out to quickly. :)

this ain't the old south -it's a dynamic new south. frankly I saw a lot poorer race relations back in Baltimore,
despite Md being a highly educated and wealthy state..

People aren't all that different except some cultural attributes.
Give them a decent place to live with opportunities, and they will gladly accept all parts of society.
of any color.

When they are downtrodden and hopeless, then the blame game comes out

Obviously other parts of the country experience similar (sometimes worse) race relations. But given the history of the south, I was just looking for some insight. BAC mentioned the desire to stay close to family, which makes sense. I think economic conditions lend to it. Weather is a factor for not moving to upper midwest and to a degree the Northeast. But just wanted to see if anyone else had opinions on why it is that so many stay in the portion of the country with the most negative history.

sure. i was merely "updating" the history.
The economy is dynamic, and there are high tech areas like Raleigh and Durham (Triangle) North Carolina..

the biggest problem I have in Florida is Hispanic gangs, I suppose because of the amount of Hispanics
