A man suspected of being California's most prolific trader of child pornography was arrested this week in Los Angeles.
Alvaro Rosas, 34, was booked for investigation of distributing child pornography Wednesday after an early morning police raid at his home, according to the Associated Press. The raid was conducted by Los Angeles Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations and FBI agents working on the federal Internet Crimes Against Children task force.
During the raid, investigators found at least 1,000 videos and 200 photos of child pornography on Rosas' hard drive. The files were titled with references "to children, including mention of toddlers, 4-year-olds and pre-teen hardcore," reports the AP. Other pornographic material involving kids was found on Rosas' smartphone and on CDs at his home.
The above findings are apparently only the tip of the iceberg. Investigators have in their possession the 750 gigabyte hard drive, of which they will conduct a full forensic analysis.
Rosas has allegedly confessed to possessing child pornography, but clams a peer-to-peer file-sharing program automatically distributed the files. He is being held without bail due to a hold on his immigration status.
LAPD Lt. Andrea Grossman said of child pornography, "When people say it's images only, it's not images only. We've found they're thinking about or they're going to molest children." She also noted that the LAPD's Internet Crimes Against Children unit conducts raids often once a week and up to four times a week.
