A group of California public school teachers has filed a federal lawsuit saying mandatory payment of union dues, with no control over how the money is spent, violates their right of free speech.

In essence, in California and 25 other “closed shop” states, the teachers by law must join a union as a condition of employment and pay union dues to keep their jobs.

Union reps say those fees help their efforts to improve workplace safety, for instance, and get better contracts for all employees. They add that teachers can opt-out of paying dues that fund political activities.

But many teachers say opting out is a difficult and intimidating process and claim they face harassment and losing their liability insurance. Others say they get only a fraction of their money back.

Remember, their union dues are vital to the Democrat Party.

This Oklahoma teacher says, "More power to 'em!" I wasn't a member of any teacher organization for the first 15 years that I taught. I paid a few dollars a month for legal insurance but I wouldn't have anything to do with OEA because of its affiliation with the NEA. Then finally a group was organized that was pretty much apolitical so I joined them. Fortunately we have no such political "pressure" on us.

Nice to see some of them finally standing up for themselves instead of feeding the beast that will lead to their destruction.

Attitudes like this is significant reason I turned down a teaching job about 14 years ago (well that and the pay isn't to hot). It is becoming so that there's no protection from knuckle draggers who have an agenda to undermine public education by using educators as scape goats for their failures as parents.

LMAO... so TEACHERS are undermining public education because they don't like being abused by the unions?
