California Restaurants Cut Jobs as Fast-Food Wages Set to Rise

Except of course for those clogged arteries. lol

I wonder if Toxic and her little Arbie buddy will now call YOU "the worst racist on this forum" for using the word "cracker" like Guno does? :rofl2:

I've used it since I've been here.
I can't begin to remember what my first post was about,
but it's no longer odds than 50/50
that "cracker" was in it.

Then why not have more than one set of minimum wage levels?

I've read a decent amount about the minimum wage but never actually really seen that discussed. Not sure if it's because it wouldn't pass legal muster (age discrimination) or what. I'm sure someone would bring up the equal pay for equal work argument (if you and I are both burger flippers with the same level work experience why should I make more than you if you if I am four years older).

Unions are hugely involved with minimum wage legislation and I don't know what their feelings are on a two tier system because without their support it won't pass.

Scaled minimum and training wages by age are the law in Michigan. We are a heavily unionized state, thank the gods.

I love crackers, especially those Chicken in a Biscuit things that my grandson and I share and which he has named "Gramma tractors."

When FDR passed the minimum wage, he said it was to be a living wage. If a company would not pay its workers enough to survive, they had no reason to exist. What the minimum wage tells you, is that owners would pay less than that if they could. Owners tellworkers what they think of them, and yet expect loyalty and hard work.

That's great, I'll join in. Good for you!

I'm looking forward to Easter because it will be a healthy eating hiatus for the day. I'm debating if I should get a small cake or a pie for the day. Just as long as there are no tempting leftovers because it's right back to healthy eating the next day.

My little retirement job is a pretty good gig for me. Keeps me busy, a little extra bucks, social interaction. All of that.

It’s a deli section of a supermarket chain. Hot and cold case stuff. Fried chicken, salads, sandwiches type thing. No brainer stuff. I don’t know the wage range because it’s none of my business, but probably $15-18/hr. In Idaho. That’s probably higher than the $20 in California. Most of the employees are kids. 25 and under.

I would probably fire most, maybe all, if I had the authority to do so. Lazy. Sloppy. Unable to take direction. Come in hung over, lack of sleep, possibly high. Make the same fucking mistakes over and over. Only the adults have their shit together.

But, they need bodies. Warm bodies, no matter how shitty they are because nobody wants to work for that pay.

Know what these kids might have to do? Move in with mom and dad. Ride the bus instead of their cars. Give up booze, cigs, vaping, tats and piercings. Poor fucking victims.

There are so many man-hours of work required to meet customer demands and keep the place clean and maintained. The owners cannot just cut workers and make a successful business.

California state law is set to raise fast-food workers’ wages in April to $20 an hour. Some restaurants there are already laying off staff and reducing hours for workers as they try to cut costs.

Scream about raising the min wage than loose your job....FUCKING IDIOTS

Which according to the “invisible hand” will result in cuts in service meaning a competitor who doesn’t cut staff will pick up customers, called capitalism

As long as Donald McDonald is free to roam, no fast food is going out of business anytime soon!

Fast food is why America is like the number one country in the world with Heart Disease and Sugar Diabetes deaths per capita!

They should all be closed down.

I went to Wendy's the other day and ordered a Dave's #1 meal.

First of all, it looked like a kiddie burger with a giant Soda, and 2ndly, it cost $11.65! The burger was cold, and the drink tasted more like water, THE FRIES WEREN'T HALF BAD THOUGH!

Fuck them and the horse they rode in on. Last time for me.

I can go to Cracker Barrel for lunch, and get a Roast Beef Dinner, Mashed Potatoes w/Gravy, Pinto Beans, Fried Okra, bisquits, cornbread, and butter, and Iced Water with lemon all for $11.95. :whoa:

A healthy square meal!

Studies show unemployed teens commit more crimes.

Yesterday I was excited, but not entirely surprised, to read about a new studypublished in the journal Science about how a cohort of Chicago teenagers were affected by access to summer employment. The conclusion of the study, conducted by University of Pennsylvania criminologist Sara Heller, is that when you give a young person a summer job, he or she is significantly less likely to commit a violent crime. .
