But global warming isn't happening?

Those who hold fast that the earth is warming and it's because of human involvement; continue to deny that it's part of any cycle, even when presented of proof of past centuries
But let the planet start cooling and they'll swear it's because of that one plastic bottle that they didn't put in a landfill.

Whereas over here we have had two years of drought followed by endless rain since April, luckily it eased up for the start of the Olympics. Unfortunately so much of the debate is driven by excessive emotionalism by people who haven't a clue about the basic science. That's why wind turbines have been so prevalent, the economics just don't make any sense but are driven by politicians responding to the plea that something must be done. Wind power doesn't even save on CO2 emissions, if people want clean energy then they should back nuclear, gas and geothermal powered electricity generation.

What about thermal-solar, hydro power and tidal-current generation?

I traveled around the Bay of Fundy for the last couple weeks, the horsepower is amazing, and they are just starting to install tidal-current generators.

Nothing wrong with tidal or hydro, which are both fairly constant, solar is still too experimental to be a viable technology yet. I believe that molten salt solar generators show promise though. The Bay of Fundy has much in common with the Severn Estuary between England and Wales and Strangford Loch in Northern Ireland.

If we subsidized green tech the same as oil, coal and gas we'd be jogging toward the solution to many things along with taking a step toward lessening our impact
on the climate. It is our impact, not a 'cycle'....duh.

Hanson wrote a paper in 2006 that predicted the collapse of the ice shelves and what it would mean...we are quickly reaching the tipping point and we are in an extinction event. The oceans are dying and can't absorb any more carbon and the methane release (on top of cattle) is increasing as everything warms yet so many sit on their hands and say NO...just like all the people we're paying in congress with R's next to their names. They don't earn what they're paid and they enjoy healthcare they want to deny to the rest of us. You deniers are frogs in a pot on top of the stove...

OK, I will ask you the same question as I asked Bijou, do you have any scientific background? My expectation is that you will refuse to answer, the same as her. Oh and by the way, his surname is Hansen not Hanson. It's an easy mistake to make as Hanson were a prepubescent pop group and Hansen is a NASA scientist despised by many former NASA scientists.

OK Hansen...I thought I was wrong. You need to do a lot more reading. Hansen is a respected scientist and is supported by many NASA and JPL scientists as well as others. Back up your claim.

Back in 2005 (not 2006), before the massive ice sheet breakups and the open water of the Arctic were visible, Hansen suggested we look for these as signs that the added wattage the planet was absorbing might be tipping us into a forward=crash of spiraling temperatures that would be impossible to stop. In the cold language of science, he and his collegues wrote in the Science article (written with fourteen other scientists representing the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory, Columbia University's Department of Earth and Enviornmental Sciences and it Earth Institute, and SGT Incorporated published a research aper in the peer=reviewed journal Science...look it up)
The destabilizing effect of comparable ocean and ice sheet response times is apparent. Assume that initial stages of ice sheet disintegration are detected. Before action to counter this trend could be effective, it would be necessary to eliminate the positive planetary energy imbalance, now 0.85 W/m2, which exists as a result of the oceans' thermal inertia. Given energy infrastructure inertia and trends in energy use, that task could require on the order of a century to complete. If the time for a substantial ice response is as short as a century, (and he just said it was happening much faster), the positive ice=climate feedbacks imply the possibility of a system out of our control.

quoted from Threshold, The Crisis Of Western Culture by Thom Hartmann.

Sit on your hands and spew your denial...enjoy your boil.

Dear Charlie,
We, the undersigned, respectfully request that NASA and the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) refrain from including unproven remarks in public releases and websites. We believe the claims by NASA and GISS, that man-made carbon dioxide is having a catastrophic impact on global climate change are not substantiated, especially when considering thousands of years of empirical data. With hundreds of well-known climate scientists and tens of thousands of other scientists publicly declaring their disbelief in the catastrophic forecasts, coming particularly from the GISS leadership, it is clear that the science is NOT settled.
The unbridled advocacy of CO2 being the major cause of climate change is unbecoming of NASA’s history of making an objective assessment of all available scientific data prior to making decisions or public statements.

As former NASA employees, we feel that NASA’s advocacy of an extreme position, prior to a thorough study of the possible overwhelming impact of natural climate drivers is inappropriate. We request that NASA refrain from including unproven and unsupported remarks in its future releases and websites on this subject. At risk is damage to the exemplary reputation of NASA, NASA’s current or former scientists and employees, and even the reputation of science itself.
For additional information regarding the science behind our concern, we recommend that you contact Harrison Schmitt or Walter Cunningham, or others they can recommend to you.

Thank you for considering this request.
Sincerely,

Global warming is real. Everyone else except you knows this.

How many times do I and many others have to say the exact God damn thing? What the fuck is the matter with you people anyway? Nobody is denying that there has been a warming trend over the last few years, the argument centres around the extent to which it can be attributed to anthropogenic causes.

*Sigh* I wish all the GW religion apostles would take themselves seriously, do something to help in reducing Man made Global Warming caused by Human addition of CO2 and stop breathing, thereby reducing the carbon footprint, and sparing us at the same time.
