Burning Koran's? Why Not?

You may agree or disagree on the popularity/tastefulness of burning the Koran. But really, its just your OPINION. This is the problem found with a lot of countries, and in particular the U.S.A. People try to instill the idea that OPINION should be law.

For example, you might think gay marriage is wrong, but that's your own personal OPINION. Laws shouldn't be created/destroyed based on people's opinions. Because the fact of the matter is opinion's change frequently, and are often based on personal factors instead of cold hard facts.

So sure, I agree the burning of the Koran is in bad taste, and is pretty stupid. But that's my opinion. What I do know is that its not illegal, and it can be viewed as a form of free speech. So trying to be unbiased, i think it should be allowed if the people want to do it.

And this also means, i can accept the burning of other "holy" books as well, you may know the one... it starts with a B.

I judge people harshly who refuse to burn qurans. Quran burning should be an individual mandate. That opinon should be law, for sure.
 
The big three religions are being merged by totalitarians into a single abrahamic/noahidic theocratic faith.

Not everybody wants to be a branch regrafted into the trunk or whatever that crap is.

The Abrahams are not my tribe.
 
If everybody believes that OPINION should become law, than there will be millions of laws disallowing gay marriage, and millions of laws allowing gay marriage.

It would be a huge mess. That's why its best to leave OPINION out of the process.

How would it work if millions of people had different opinions about various topics? How would laws get created?

Take for example, a game of soccer. Without rules and a referee, the game would literally break down.

What I find fascinating, is the people who were all in favor of the ground zero mosque, but are opposed to this qaran burning. Both are a 1st amendment issue, and both are guaranteed 1st amendment rights. But the same people who couldn't grasp the notion that a mosque at ground zero was in bad taste, certainly seem to have no problem understanding that now! It's the same exact thing!

When it was Muslims doing something within their rights in bad taste, we can't even speak out against it without being labeled 'intolerant' or 'religious bigots.' But when it's Christians doing something within their rights in bad taste, anyone who condones it is pond scum. That's just amazing to me.

Jeesh, give it a rest, will ya? I don't think they are 'closet' anything, I think they are outright hypocrites. We spent two or three weeks being lectured on religious tolerance... got to let them build their mosque and worship freely, it's their constitutional right... but isn't this qaran burning church practicing a religious exercise as well? It's on private property, they bought the qarans, it's their property and their right. Just as is the case with the mosque builders... their property, their right. We The People DO have a legitimate right to protest it, and speak out against it, raise question as to the 'wisdom' of it, and it's not because of religious intolerance or bigotry, it is because things are 'right' and things are 'wrong' and generally speaking, we should mostly know the difference.
 
Opinions are just like .... well, you know, everyone's got them. I think it is the opinion of the majority (I'd venture to say even everyone) on this board that the quasi-church in Florida has a **right to burn Korans but not only would it be in poor taste**, but it would also incite the Muslims even more against our troops (and the US in general), further endangering them. I haven't seen anyone yet say there is a need for policemen to show up and stop this burning or that the government needs to send out the national guard to stop it.

**I also agree that this is the same feelings most have toward the Imam wanting to build a Mosque (yea, yea, family center or whatever) 5 blocks or so from ground zero. Most agree they have the right but that it would be in poor taste. Yea, I know there are a few nuts who would ban them, or try to, but most I've seen talking here state the above opinion.

I haven't seen anyone say the burning should be illegal. So the "They have a right to protest" arguments are against a point that was never mentioned.

But Fred Phelps has the right to do what he does too. It doesn't mean it isn't a disgusting act.

I'll admit that I'm not likely to be offended if the Bible were publicly burned. I'd be more likely upset over desecrations of crucifixes and statues of Mary. Its probably just a Catholic thing... People who claim to be Biblical literalists or to need nothing more than the Bible, which is a lot of Christians, would probably get very offended though.
