Defense Secretary Austin admits the US is a party to Ukraine war

On Sunday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin traveled to Ukraine, where Austin stated that the United States is a party to the Ukraine war.

After meeting with Ukrainian President Volodomir Zelensky, Austin declared in prepared remarks, “our focus in the meeting was to talk about those things that would enable us to win the current fight and also build for tomorrow.”

In using the first-person plural to describe both the United States and Ukraine as engaged in a “fight” against Russia, Austin admitted—for the first time by a US official—that the United States is a combatant in the war.

This statement is especially striking given the declaration by Biden in March that “Direct confrontation between NATO and Russia is World War III, something we must strive to prevent.”

Combining the statements of Austin that “we” are engaged in a “fight” against Russia, and Biden’s declaration that a war between the US and Russia would mean “World War III,” it is impossible to avoid the conclusion that the proxy war between the US and Russia over Ukraine threatens to rapidly spiral into a world war.

Austin then said, “We want to see Russia weakened to the degree that it can’t do the kinds of things that it has done in invading Ukraine.”

Austin’s statement echoed the declaration by US Army Europe Commander Ben Hodges that the US should aim for “breaking the back of Russia.” A recent New York Times editorial also invoked the prospect of “bringing Russia to its knees.”

I wonder where his hidey-hole is.

Never trust an old man with your future.

How the Ukraine war must end: Putin will never accept defeat

What is the priority of the growing Ukraine-victory lobby that stretches from the US to Finland, with notable outposts in Germany’s once-pacifist Green Party and in Downing Street?

The two sides have already reached agreement on the broadest issues: Zelenskyy has already stated that Ukraine will not join NATO and the Russian side has already accepted Ukraine’s entry into the European Union.

This loose but influential lobby holds that victory for Ukraine is a victory for NATO and the West, so defeat for Ukraine must mean their defeat as well.

It follows that enough military support must reach Ukraine to allow it to expel Russia’s forces, including in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

It sees Ukraine losing the war unless it receives much more Western support, including heavy weapons with the requisite training. And it sees NATO’s role as ensuring Ukraine drives out all Russian troops, with the hope that Putin himself will be driven out of office.

For this lobby, the greatest short-term threat is a ceasefire or, even worse, an armistice with Russia.

It is axiomatic that both sides must benefit if they are to end the war.

For Ukraine, this must include its unconditional recognition as an independent state, as well as the cessation of hostilities that would bring with it the return of millions of refugees.

While Putin cannot be given the two regions he demanded before starting the war, he can be provided with something that he can portray as a victory: plebiscites in both regions where properly certified residents, including returning refugees, would be allowed to vote on whether their oblast should remain Ukrainian or join Russia.

All of this is anathema for the victory lobby.

But its twin goals of driving out the Russians by force and bringing down Putin in the process would only be desirable if nuclear weapons could be un-invented.

As it is, they offer Russia a court of appeal when facing conventional defeat, in a manner that negates any conventional victory — something that is surely infinitely worse than the outcome of any referendum.

We can start at the beginning, and point out the Ruble, which is supposed to be worth more than the Dollar, is worth about a penny.

Or we can mention that prices returned to the higher rate, as the market totally shutdown. You cannot get the higher rate, it is not real. Maybe a few preferred oligarchs can get a little bit of the higher rate, but no one else. There are trillions of Rubles belonging to people who would love that higher rate.

McDonalds has to have 100 billion Rubles, which they would gladly sell at half a penny to Legion. If Legion can get a full penny for a Ruble (less than the 1.35 pennies he claims he can get), then he could make $500 million in one trade. Think about that for a moment.

It is clear that the Ruble is not a free market anymore, and so the government claimed rate has no reality.

It would have been nice if the idiocies of American Foreign policy had not been so idiotic during the Biden Administration to lead to this catastrophe.

It would have been nice if Biden had not been in this position allowing him to do so much damage to so much hurting so many.

The Obama retreads who are pulling the strings @ the (Deep) State Department and the White Louse were bound to repeat the disastrous mistakes they made during Obama's Reign of Error.

I suspect we'll have more foreign policy debacles on the menu soon.
