Build Back Better

And as history has shown, time and time again, "ERMAGAWD THE DEFICIT!" is a tune only sung during (D) presidencies.

Do the Rs ever mention this?

"The growth in the annual deficit under Trump ranks as the third-biggest increase, relative to the size of the economy, of any U.S. presidential administration, according to a calculation by a leading Washington budget maven, Eugene Steuerle, co-founder of the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center. And unlike George W. Bush and Abraham Lincoln, who oversaw the larger relative increases in deficits, Trump did not launch two foreign conflicts or have to pay for a civil war."

Everyone got something and everyone walked away a little unhappy. That's how it should be!

Even if this is true, it's still depressing as hell.
I hate most of the little bland sayings that seem to comfort so many people.

When a nation is as socially regressive as we are,
and we're really a fucking disgrace in so many ways,
small victories are just not going to cut it.

Wasn't that the case during your career with unions? Sure it's a trite saying but it's better than getting nothing in the negotiations.

Amazing, isn't it?

The tax cuts for the wealthy coupled with the necessary stimulus bills due to the pandemic were the perfect recipe for an out-of-control deficit. We can't go back and fix the pandemic response, but we *can* and should raise those taxes on the wealthy and keep them that way.

Yes, I suppose it was. Good point. And I always walked away disappointed.

That's what I loved about the contentiousness of the grievance procedure and arbitration.
You won or you lost, no compromises, and I usually won--at any cost. No right or wrong. Just us and them. My true nature.
The perjury under oath was spectacular on both sides.

Bargaining was different. It was about compromise. I hated it and wasn't a big part of it because of my personality and nature.

Hello christiefan915,

Obviously the Republican tax-cut bill did NOT pay for itself, but it did cause the debt to rise.

Tax the rich, baby!

Just like AOC's dress said...

President Biden is gonna sign off on the Infrastructure Act Monday that Trump claimed he could pass, but Biden actually got it done.

Leave it to President Biden to fulfill on Trump's failed promises.

Trump = failure, a loser. A big liar.

Biden = Winner. Able to get things DONE! Right for America.

Won't change a thing either. Inflation will continue. The economy will still be limping along. The employment rate will still be close to 50%. Leave it to Biden and the Democrats to think that government that got us into this mess is the solution to getting us out of it...

Inflation has been a major issue since 1970.

Started mostly by loss of manufacturing, importation of migrants, loss of unions.

Capitalism caused a ton of these issues.

Just proves Capitalism is hardly better than Communism.

FDR had a big majority

This is part of the reason the republicans cheat in elections

They keep the Dems from having a truly effective majority

So, you believe FDR is one of the same as modern Democrats!?

An awful lot of White Southerners & urban / suburban White Catholics voted Democrat during FDR & many increasingly switched Republican as Democrats were increasingly perceived as weaker & more Globalist.

Democrats are globalists. Republicans are flat earthers. Is that what you mean?

Democrats are more Globalist & Republicans are more Nationalist.

Honestly, I see Republicans as mostly just impotent figureheads.

In implementation Republicans including Trump are nearly identical to Democrats.

Bullshit. From about 1970 to 1980 inflation was bad. After 1980, it declined to around 1 to 2% and has stayed there until Biden took office. Now it's shot back up to 6% +.

No, most inflation was due to changes in taxation and increases in government spending.

Capitalism caused a ton of these issues.

No, most of it was due to massive increases in government regulation under Nixon, then Carter. EPA, OSHA, Dept. of Energy, Dept. of Education, etc. These added massively to the cost of doing business in the US along with increases in taxation and government spending to operate them.
