Broken Grading

We actually had to wonder if he’s a high functioning autistic.
When he was 12 he took apart a gas powered weed eater and put back together just to see how it worked.
A year later I had a gas powered chain saw that no longer started. The small engine repair shop said it was irreparable.
Without asking He took it apart, put back together and it was like new. No instruction manual, nothing.
By sticking with him and helping him out , he was able to figure out what it was that he was destined to do.... Lots of kids give up because their parents aren't there for them in that capacity....( People here are only belittling you because it's you... But then you know that...)

There's always tremendous jealousy when there's honesty and love.... Particularly when it comes to education.... Jobs, careers success... that kind of thing....
You can almost predict who on this site has dysfunctional kids. And who doesn’t.

Why didn’t you install a love of learning in him you failed parent?

Imagine what he could have done with that love of learning

Maybe his best life would have been even more fulfilling with even more knowledge
You cannot pick their friends, nor can you give them a "love for learning", you can create an environment where that might grow, but you cannot force them to "love learning". Teen apathy can be strong in some...

Toxic is always scolding about encouraging, not enabling...except when it comes to her pals. What a hypocrite.

Absolutely Encourage... don't enable.... and most importantly understand the What those two words mean.... Obviously some of our friends here are a little confused.... 😕🤔😖😣🫤

Instead of the Alphabetic grading system, I think we should be more clear and have grades that describe one's level of mastery of the subject.

It could take one person years to become proficient at something another is proficient in a few months, but how long it takes should not matter once proficiency is attained.

So grades such as, "Master", "Proficient", "Approproching Proficiency" and "Novice".

Effort should not matter, what matters (in education) is the ability.

Sure effort might help one become a "Master" but we are judging mastery, not how hard you try.

In fact, you could grade ones ability to commit effort toward a task as being... "a Master at it", "proficient at it", ect...

The gist of the article is kids believe their grades should be based on effort, not mastery of the subject.

In this world kids think of school like a contract, “I put in the effort, now you owe me an A”.

This is how we get grade inflation. This is how you mask who may be having struggles. There’s an element of resilience that is taken away. Employers notice as well.

I go back to the fact we live in a global world and that this is occurring at our elite schools ultimately has an effect on all of us, as these are our country’s future leaders.

Social Promotion Fails Students and Colleges - Minding The Campus

Dec 23, 2024Real education is not possible, so colleges need an alternative raison d'etre. Political activism has perfectly filled this role, and mental health goals have contributed to an additional non-educational purpose for educational institutions.

The Disastrous Domino Effect of Social Promotion

May 13, 2025Social promotion does children no favors. According to the Fordham Institute, "Studies consistently find that children who are socially promoted in elementary school continue to struggle as they move through middle school, and they drop out of high school at much higher rates, likely leading to a lifetime of hardship as adults."

Is Social Promotion Crippling Our Children's Future? The Debate

Learn about social promotion in public schools and why it is sparking a heated debate in today's education reform movement. Social promotion, the act of promoting children to the next grade even when their test scores don't support such a move, is a regular practice in many schools today.

Well done. Toxic is trying frantically there to backtrack and justify all the nasty, cruel things she's said to and about @Jade Dragon. In her warped world, befriending him is "enabling" him because his disabilities are all fake and he's a slacker.

Our 5 yo grandson is on the spectrum; the 4 yo g-son has some behavioral issues as well. I wouldn't let that hateful bitch within a mile of either of these delightful dear little boys. Or anyone else's children, either.
