Russia Stocks Are Trump Trade Gone Wrong as Sanctions Risk Grows

Benchmark Micex Index has retreated 20 percent since January

U.S. Senate signals it’s ready to extend penalties on Russia

Russian stocks headed for their biggest slump in 17 months after the U.S. senate signaled it’s ready to expand sanctions against the Kremlin.

Optimism earlier this year that U.S. President Donald Trump would improve battered relations with Russia has fizzled amid an escalating scandal in Washington over his ties to the Kremlin. Congressional committees and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are examining the Russian interference in the election and whether there was any collusion with President Donald Trump’s campaign.

“Any speculation about the expansion of sanctions pushes foreign investors to cut their Russia holdings,” said Vladimir Vedeneev, chief investment officer at Raiffeisen Capital Asset Management in Moscow. “The hope that Russia’s relationship with the West will improve is completely gone.”

So in your mind investors all buy their stocks on the first of the year. Kid, and you are a kid, what I bought here I bought at the end of May, and my little puppy dog, it's up quite nicely thank you. You are looking at year to date results and not factoring in that I can buy and sell every day, and cooler yet pay ZERO taxes.

LOL keep trying kid

The Worst Performing Stock Market Among G20 Countries? Russia

Despite all the attention surrounding the "Trump rally" in American stocks, foreign stock markets have been delivering superior returns.

Bloomberg reports that the top performing stock market among the G20 members is Argentina with a near 35 percent return, followed by Turkey just shy of 30 percent. But the worst performing stock market among the 20 biggest economies in the world? Russia.

The S&P 500 index and Russia's Micex index began 2017 at nearly the same level, but Russia's index is now lower by nearly 15 percent. Over the same time period, the American index is up around 8 percent.

Russia's stock exchange has been hard hit due to slumping oil prices and the country's failed attempt to join OPEC members in slashing their collective oil outputs. Also, many investors had expected President Trump to ease sanctions against the country but now optimism is "evaporating."

I would expect that from a country that went through national bankruptcy during the 90s. That said, Russia is going to be a royal pain in the ass if it ever gets its economy really healthy.

Gee, I don't know, do two wrongs makea right?

That is not how I look at it. It's a fact that this is not new and has been happening for a long time. What is new is letting the general public know that this happens and blaming it on Putin and Trump as though it never existed before now. This is very old news.

THE CIA INVENTED this, and has been using it all over the World for a long time.
