The Trump administration said Wednesday that it would slap new sanctions on Russia in retaliation for the poisoning of an ex-spy in England. Former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were found unconscious in a Salisbury park at the beginning of March. Authorities determined that they had been attacked with a military-grade Russian nerve agent known as Novichok.

Vladimir Putin's government violated an international act banning the use of chemical and biological weapons with the assassination attempt, the State Department said. It announced the sanctions in a statement that it released without fanfare and without a comment from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo or President Trump.

BUT...but we are being told by brain dead partisan hack leftists that Trump loves Putin!!! This cannot be!!! :rofl2:

Congress can sanction without the president’s approval?
Yes

This episode sheds light on an important fact: Sanctions are a foreign policy tool uniquely entrusted to Congress by the Constitution, which provides that Congress shall “regulate commerce with foreign nations.” Unlike the other major levers of U.S. foreign policy—diplomacy and military force, over which the Constitution divides control between Congress and the executive—the president has no inherent power to impose sanctions or to refuse to implement congressionally mandated sanctions. As sanctions continue to grow in importance, becoming the default U.S. policy response to a range of international crises, Congress will enjoy newfound potential to shape U.S. foreign policy in ways that have eluded it for decades.

Good enough.

Do you think Trump will ever get around to doing Putin’s bidding?

Putin didn’t like Trump deleting the Iran Deal—and that was all Trump.
Are you sure? Trump’s doing so could be advantageous to Russia. Trump backing out of an agreement signed with key allies and major world players, it has caused some friction and it seems that all other players are holding up the agreement.

"The State Department notified Congress on Wednesday of the first of two potential tranches of sanctions required under the 1991 law. Unless Russia takes certain steps, a second set of penalties -- more stringent than this first round -- must follow, according to the law".

Laughable dumbfuck

Is that so, imbecile? Who told you that?

This did, halfwit.

Sounds a bit like a conspiracy theory.

No matter what Trump does to Putin it’s explained-away as some sort of under the table deal.
