Breaking news: Turkey army group announces takeover on TV

Live stream that I posted earlier was a Fox station rebroadcasting the Sky stream, they sometimes switch over and do annoying things. Here's the direct Sky live stream:

Not so sure about that. If the coup fails, it's just going to make Erdogan that much more powerful. It doesn't seem to be something the entire military is behind. We will see tomorrow.

The military in Turkey overthrows the government about every 20 years. It was a matter of time.

I don't think they know what they're getting themselves into this time though. Erdogan is a lot more powerful than his predecessors, and he's purged the military a lot in order to avoid another repeat of this.

I guess he missed a few...

Do you suspect this happened w/out US support or @ least knowledge??

so its over coup lost? oh well would have preffered one less islamist govt. eu must be so excited to welcome turkey now lol.

It's certainly not going to help their tourist industry, although Greece will be really happy about it. It is a sad day for democracy in Turkey, Erdogan is a total bastard and needed to go.

Turkey's army launched a coup attempt on Friday in a country that has seen three full military coups since 1960. Pictured, crowds of over 500,000 celebrate the fall of the Adnan Menderes administration in 1960

Being NATO's front-line against Syria wasn't a good idea. Duplicitously supporting ISIS wasn't a good idea. Opposing Kurdish self-determination wasn't a good idea. Shooting down a Russian aircraft wasn't a good idea. Befriending Israel wasn't a good idea- particularly after Israel openly murdered eleven Turkish peace-workers. A coup seems well overdue.

But don't worry, Canute- your new Secretary of State is on the case;

They're forgetting the 1970 coup.
