Boston Celtics great Bill Russell, 11-time NBA champion, dies at 88

LOL. I’ve lived in Boston. Least favorite City in the country. And it’s long had a reputation for being racist, especially among athletes.

I know, all that history, four seasons, culture, and New Englandish is just awful, just can’t match the mediocrity of the West Coast

Please allow me (talking specifically about Boston):

1) the weather is awful - it is freezing for months and hot/humid as hell during the summer - sure, there are several good months in the spring and fall but that doesn't come close to making up for the rest
2) it's a very parochial City - it you aren't from here you aren't one of us attitude
3) accents - it's the most God awful thing and when women have it (insert face palm gif)
4) Massholes - I had heard the term before going there and figured it was the usual exaggeration - but there was a lot of truth to it
5) racist AF - all cities have their racist history so that's not unique to Boston but Boston has put itself at the top rung

For the last 50 years russell called for more affirmative action. More persecution of whites. He demanded whites be denied jobs and scholarships just because they're white!! You can't get more racist than that.

As for the weather, Mark Twain put it best, “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco."

Been to SF three times, and twice in May I had to dress for winter for a night game at Oracle Park, only ballpark that I can recall that has a major enclosed section specifically for the weather. Plus, the changing of the seasons is what makes the North East unique, pretty obvious you didn’t take the time to appreciate the wonder of it all

Bet you didn’t tell those Southie women that their accent was awful. If you are from that part of county, particularly an urban area, you most likely grew up in that heterogeneous environment and have not problem mixing in with the locals, especially if you are Irish or Italian. Besides, a good number of people you meet in Boston aren’t originally from Boston

“Massholes?” Why in the hell would you even drive or own a car in Boston? Mass transit, unlike cities as your own, probably one of the easiest cities in America to get around. Beginning to understand why the Bostonians ostracized you

Yes, Boston has had that reputation, largely stemming for the efforts over school segregation decades ago, but as you said, not a whole lot different from other areas, and one could make the case that SF did the same to the Asian population as seen by the way that community had to establish to survive.

And it is quite noticeable that you omitted the history and culture of Boston, SF doesn’t even have a decent local history museum, and largely still feeds off its’ bohemian reputation earned in the last Century

And

I lived there from January - October. I can still remember I think it was a Wednesday in April where after months the sun actually came out and the City totally transformed. That's something you don't experience on the West Coast because we don't experience the seasons the same way. But as fun as that was it wasn't worth the winter. I can go to Lake Tahoe if I want cold and snow and but I don't need to deal with that crap on a daily basis.

Accents are a personal thing, I love the Southern accent but the Boston people not using the R is like nails on a chalkboard. I was there to do my time for work and get out. I wasn't there to get into with the locals.

Massholes isn't about transportation but people from the state being a*holes. NiftyNickle (who either lives in Boston or nearby) has made reference to it on here.

You know i'm a big sports fans. Athletes for decades have spoken decades about Boston being the most racist City they played in. I suppose one can argue that's not a fair description but it exists.

San Francisco is cold during the summer but you can drive a few minutes outside the City to get warm/hot weather. So its easily accessible.

See, you missed entirely the change of colors, the kaleidoscopic in the Spring turning to the shades of brown in the Fall and the purity of white snow in Winter, you never appreciated the aesthetics that makes it special. And you don’t have to travel to a resort area to access the experience

You bought up mixing with the locals, and it is not a Southern a accent, but southie accent, and if you knew what I was talking about, guarantee you never questioned the women you found offensive

Athletes say a lot of things, some insightful, others not, but can’t recall many turning down contracts to play in Boston

And you still haven’t offered anything what would put SF even in Boston’s circle
