situation has "become so dire that BP [Border Patrol] has no choice but to release people nearly immediately after apprehension because there is no space to hold people even to do necessary
NTA [ Notice to Appear ] paperwork."
- meaning they will depart custody without a court date.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) chief Alejandro Mayorkas said last week that border crossings were on track to be the highest in 20 years.

CBP announced it had encountered more than 100,000 migrants at the border in February, while numbers of child migrants in custody have also increased dramatically. The Biden administration has been moving to increase capacity of facilities to house migrants, and building a number of extra facilities — including looking at NASA sites and military bases.

"We are on pace to encounter more individuals on the southwest border than we have in the last 20 years," Mayorkas said, although he later added that the situation is "not new" and noted the U.S. has faced border spikes before.

On Friday, The Washington Post reported that the Biden administration is considering flying migrants to states near the Canadian border for processing.

CBP requested the plane support from ICE on Friday after 1,000 migrant families and unaccompanied minors crossed the Rio Grande into South Texas on Friday morning, Homeland Security officials told The Washington Post. Border agents reportedly still had another 1,000 migrants they were unable to process Thursday night.

The backups at CBP are exacerbated by the nearly 4,500 unaccompanied children being held in detention centers and tent sites at the border, many beyond the legal three-day limit.

If the US could intern 120,000 Japanese Americans during WWII surly we can house the illegals until we deport them.

That doesn't seem to be the case, however....

I can't blame just one side this has been going on for decades. Some day hopefully we will have leaders who will have a massive train depot and as people are caught illegally crossing they are put back on a train and delivered to southern Mexico.

Stop looking at OAN and Breitbart and try some real news for once. Ask someone to read this to you.

"On Feb. 1, the Associated Press reported that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had recently deported immigrants to at least three countries: 15 people to Jamaica and 269 people to Guatemala and Honduras, and that more deportation flights were scheduled. At the same time, AP said that some of the people deported on flights "may have been" expelled under Title 42."

Hmmmm ... I wonder why that is? Good for the Capitalists. Bad for the American Worker.

Here in Massachusetts, traffic across the Mexican border is what keeps us from sleeping at night.
That plus the cost of mani/pedis in Kathmandu.

That was wrong, but why repeat a very bad mistake. The majority of these illegals are children, they need to be processed as quickly as possible, but once, again, the Biden administration was left with a broken system. They are trying to correct that as quickly as is possible.

Phan, first off that is a lie! unaccompanied children are not the majority! Also you don't have to make excuses for Biden. This problem has been on going since the 80's. It may seem harsh to you but unaccompanied children should be deported and turned over to world relief agencies. We are not South Americas baby sitters.

lol
all kidding aside -what's wrong with having them REMAIN in Mexico? ( because that would be a Trump thing!)

most of the "children:" are teens
most of the migrants now are "family units" ( who knows if they are actual families)
most have some kind of communicable disease ( scabies,TB and COVID are the most common)
and the overcrowded facilities just means more disease passing

but hey! we want to be "humanitarian" huh? :palm:

Sorry, I disagree and do you have proof they aren’t the majority? We have always welcomed refugees and it is my hope we continue.

you could DO SOME RESEARCH -huh??

The Biden administration allowed the majority of migrant families surrendering at the U.S.-Mexico border to enter the United States in February instead of expelling them under a public health order imposed early in the pandemic, a move officials signaled is due to Mexico’s inability to care for them and not a major U.S. policy shift on the border.

While much attention has been focused on the rush of children and teens arriving at the border without their parents, the administration is also struggling to shelter and quickly process a rapidly increasing number of families.

Nearly 60 percent of the 19,246 “family units” — which typically include at least one parent and one child — taken into custody at the southwestern border last month were allowed to stay in the United States to await an immigration hearing, the latest Customs and Border Protection figures show, compared with 38 percent of the families that arrived in January.
