Border agents from 'whipping' incident to be disciplined despite being cleared

Despite being cleared of any criminal wrongdoing by the Department of Homeland Security, border agents who were accused of “whipping” Haitian migrants last September are expected to be punished for “administrative violations,” sources say.

Federal sources have told Fox News that DHS is expecting to put forth proposals to discipline the agents for “administrative violations” in the coming days.

According to Judd, after DHS’s inspector general found no criminal wrongdoing, the investigation was handed over to Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Office of Personal Responsibility (ORP) to determine whether the agents violated CBP policy.

Everything that they were doing, they were acting under the color of law,” Judd told The Post. “They were placed there specifically to stop people from crossing the border.

Nonetheless, if ORP’s investigation finds the agents violated CBP policy, they could potentially lose their jobs, according to The Post.

The White House ultimately announced a policy change as a result of the images, which removed the use of horses by border patrol agents in the area where the “whipping” incident took place, but whether the agents acted improperly has been a point of contention.

The photojournalist who captured the moments on film said that while the images he took looked damning, they were being misconstrued, according to media reports.

What caused Haitian migrants? Border agents are trained to violate human rights. There are no consequences for beating or killing Black and Brown folk. Some of the best workers come here from the Caribbean. They are not to blame for their desperation.
