The Republican demigod is Ronald Reagan.
And in his summation after debating President Carter, Governor Reagan looked into the TV camera and asked:
"Are you better off ...?" Reagan
That is the Republican demigod's standard. "Are you better off ...?"
Fair enough.
Let's apply that Reagan standard.
When President Bush (R-TX) (younger) took over from President Clinton (D-AR) the U.S. was in fairly good shape.
8 years later it was in tatters.
- Bush started the longest War in U.S. history. We still have troops there today.
- Bush lied us into an unnecessary war which severely destabilized the region, and has us back in combat again.
- Bush was the steward of multiple unsuccessful disaster relief efforts including hurricane's Rita & Katrina.
- Bush killed off more innocent Americans in his 8 years than UBL did during the same time period
- Bush / Cheney / Paulson tanked the economy. We were losing ~800K private sector jobs per month when the Bush administration ended.
- The $700 $Billion Bush administration $TARP was never intended to save the U.S. economy. It was instead to prop it up just long enough so that it didn't entire collapse DURING HIS ADMINISTRATION.
Are we better off after 8 years of the most recent Republican U.S. president?

Though private sector job growth is an important standard, by some other standards the Obama recovery from the Bush recession has been lackluster.
BUT !!
The Reagan standard is: "Are you better off ...?"
And the answer is, indeed we are!
- Obama staunched the hemorrhage of U.S. blood in Iraq.
- Obama's disaster response to super-storm Sandy left him arm in arm w/ Governor Christy (R-NJ)
- The U.S. economy is well on the mend
- Private sector unemployment has been cut in half, now listed as below 5%
- The terrorist incidents we've experienced have been domestic. Obama has kept us safe from the kind of mayhem that punctuated the Bush administration.
- We are energy independent, no longer under OPEC's thumb.
But the gloomies want you to believe Obama has been a nightmare; and that the heroic Donald Trump is going to swoop in and make America great again.
