Boehner urges Obama to back immediate budget cuts

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker John Boehner said Sunday that he wants President Barack Obama to support Republican efforts to make deep cuts in this year's budget as a down payment in the effort to attack soaring deficits.
The Ohio Republican sent a letter to Obama saying the path to prosperity for the country means "liberating our economy from the shackles of out-of-control government spending and big government."

Accompanying Boehner's letter was a statement endorsed by 150 economists that called for immediate action to reduce spending.

House Republicans are pushing $61 billion in spending cuts through September.

What happened to the $100 billion in cuts promised by Republicans leading up to the election? This is proof that Republicans still don't get it; but then, neither do Democrats. Both sides of the aisle are in a state of denial. The fact of the matter is, drastic cuts will be necessary to pull ourselves out of this mess. We must also raise taxes on the super wealthy.

What happened to the $100 billion in cuts promised by Republicans leading up to the election? This is proof that Republicans still don't get it; but then, neither do Democrats. Both sides of the aisle are in a state of denial. The fact of the matter is, drastic cuts will be necessary to pull ourselves out of this mess. We must also raise taxes on the super wealthy.

Boehner isn't a very effective House Leader, no wonder he didn't like Nancy, she makes him look really bad, so far, he can't get his House together to much of anything...so much hope, so little progress!

The economy is being buoyed by government spending. If you make the cuts, the economy and employment numbers will suffer. The idea that the economy would be in better shape without government spending is pretty much laughable.
