Black workers comprise 90 percent of recent unemployment spike, data show

A new Bureau of Labor Statistics report published Friday found that Black Americans make up nearly 90 percent of those who are unemployed in the U.S. since April.

Black workers made up about 267,000 of the 300,000 new unemployment cases this spring, the report says. The current unemployment rate of the demographic sits at 6 percent, nearly twice the rate of White employment — which sits at 3.1 percent.

Unemployment has remained low as fears rose about a looming recession, but the rate has not remained equal among different groups. Hispanic unemployment also rose in the same period, to 4.3 percent.

Last hired, first fired, pretty standard for Black Americans, but the right tells us structural racism does exist anymore

They don't need to work, they are just waiting on their reparations to come in so they can get hand fed.

Except for California, where it's more talk than action, what states do you believe are handing out reparations?

California is going to be the first to pass it.

The recommendations are out of committee and the legislation is being drafted.

Since California has a supermajority of democrats and governor Newsom is the one behind this it is guaranteed to pass.

Once it does you are going to see a domino effect happen around the nation where blacks will completely drop out of the work force until they blow their money.

They won't pass "reparations" since they can't afford it. Reparations being defined as handing out taxpayer money to everyone of color. If a person's land or business was taken from them, they deserve to be compensated for that loss, with interest, or a return of the property. That's not reparations. That's just fairness.

It's good you are revealing your fear and paranoia of black Americans, Tink. Recognition that you have a problem is the first step to resolving it.

Now would that be like the millions “handed out” to select businesses and corporations via Government subsides and tax breaks

Your right, they can't afford it.

The recommendations were that it would cost 800 billion dollars and California only has a budget of 300 billion a year meaning they will either need a massive government bailout or they are going to spike taxes on the rest of their residents who aren't black.

However it will pass, there is nothing that is going to stop it.

And why should blacks be compensated for something that happened so long ago? What is it going to fix?

Absolutely nothing.

It will not end racism or discrimination, it is simply a handout to get votes and the expense of all non black people who are having to pay for something they had no say in.

It is probably the dumbest idea I've ever heard of in politics.

On top of that, if you can't prove a relation to slavery you get nothing even if you are black which means many blacks are going to be extremely bitter because they face the same issues that slavery related blacks face so expect some extreme pushback on that.

It's going to be an unmitigated disaster.

It depends upon the return. Texas offered American Airlines millions in breaks to move their HQ to TX since it would bring in more money in the long run.

As for reparations, giving citizens money is usually a "feel good" measure like throwing money at 9/11 families. It's bad precedent. To help minority Americans, a better idea is to invest in better schools and incentivize businesses to invest in poorer neighborhoods. Low-interest business loans for residents of such areas is also a good idea.

There is no guarantee any of the recommendations of the panel will pass the Legislature (https://www.latimes.com/california/...e-recommendations-heres-what-you-need-to-know), nor get the Governor’s approval (https://www.politico.com/news/2023/05/10/slavery-reparations-california-newsom-00096211), at this point, it isn’t going anywhere fast

If it passes, it will be watered down a lot....but still a California taxpayer burden at a cost to roads, schools and other infrastructure.

Throwing taxpayer money at citizens, be they black, white, green or otherwise, is both a bad idea and sets a bad precedent. It fulfils Alexander Tytler's comment "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury."

I can't disagree with you here.

Don't underestimate the stupidity of the Left. The politicians in Cali won't care if they can afford it, they'll still do it if they want to. Look at the high speed rail boondoggle going on there. California's reparations effort is nothing but a handout to the undeserving.

I don't. Neither do I underestimate the stupidity of the Right. Both parties have moved to an extreme that is anti-American and more about appeasement than justice.

I know you are for an all-powerful Federal government, Terry, but I still support State's Rights no matter how stupid they are. They're "laboratories of democracy".

Another brilliant thread by the Dead in the Head Bullshit Master.

Then you know nothing. I want government out of my life, not more of it--like you. In fact, you admit it in your own words...
