This is the problem with progressives and conservatives trying to debate.

Debate requires stipulations.

The parties must agree to something in order to debate that about which they don't agree.

My political positions are derived to reach my goals.
Your political positions are derived to reach your goals.
If our goals are completely different, there's absolutely nothing to debate.

There's no solution to people wanting complete different things.
Either one side dominates the other, which isn't ideal,
or both sides go their separate ways to both achieve what they want simultaneously and separately.

That's why I'm a partitionist.
I want everybody to be content, even if they can't be content together.

The purpose of a debate is to provide more evidence than your opponent to show your position is correct.

It has nothing to do with beliefs.

I think I understand what you're saying.

What we want is totally subjective, however.
I'm not sure how wanting different things could be right or wrong.

If we have the same goal, then it makes total sense to debate the various suggested means to get there.
One could give evidence how one method works better than another.

If we have totally different goals, how do we debate which goal is better?
People are entitled to want totally different things.

We could argue over whether or not the death penalty is proper.

We could argue over whether or not abortion is proper.

We could argue over whether or not gun control is required.
 
I tried to look it up. No such recent account took place. There was a lying tweet (surprise!) about a black teacher beating up a white student. Turns out they were both students.

I rate the OP 9.5/10 on the Bullshit Scale, leaving the remote possibility it’s true.

Absolutely right. We can and clearly do ARGUE about those things.

I'm just saying that it would be hard to have a formally structured debate.

The things that you mention, I will admit, can be debated on the grounds of whether or not
they're consistent with our constitutional provisions.

In the debate, the constitution plays the role of what we all want, even though that may not actually be the case.
It would be hard to debate those things without constitutional consideration, however.

Not sure what you were looking at but the video I'm referring to had an obese black woman teacher dressed in black shapeless clothing laying into a fragile white girl. She couldn't have been more than 8 or 9 and the "teacher" was slapping, kicking and pulling her hair. I really do not know why I can see it, yet you can't, there is some serious malarkey going on.
