Black Friday and materialism

those are fair points and I should probably have mentioned that the majority of the people shopping are good people and arent causing trouble

I'm not in the habit of placing people on ignore, but you will NEVER have a meaningful discussion with Topspin/The Dude. He will never say anything of substance, nor does the swamp rat have any basic human decency. He can be fun to chat-up regarding investments/personal finance and college football. But you shouldn't take anything he says seriously...

I didnt really mean to come across as if buying something is materialistic I just meant that alot of the stories you hear about black friday seem to expose the side of many people that seem to value stuff over the safety or courtesy towards others. That they would suspend reason and just basic thoughtfulness to get that TV or something like that and even risk the safety of others for it by shoving and forcibly taking things from the hands of someone else.

Only the idiots make the news.

Things like Black Fridays are part of the capitalist system: you take the good with the bad. BF is also an important economic indicator because it shows how much disposable money consumers have; which in turn, is an indication of the overall health of the economy.

Which, after almost 8 years of a liberal democrat in the WH, frankly sucks. The do-nothing Republicans in congress are partly to blame as well.

Sounds like the country is in need of an election.

Eh, not really. There are some decent Xers. I just think BF is dumber than Desh. Or rather, going shopping on BF is dumber than Desh. Order your shit online.

I saw a commercial for a store that is essentially claiming to be using the whole month to market it's discounted products. If the movement to compete drives other retailers to follow suit, then Black Friday will likely become less menacing and notorious.

Watching the black Friday craze on TV is exhausting enough. You won't find me anywhere near. I love to surprise friends with little tokens of appreciation year round. This commercialized gift giving and fake caring around the holidays isn't for me.
