Ive been reading about all the fights breaking out at malls and shopping centers around the country today because all the black friday shopping chaos and it just struck me as good example of what materialism and selfishness does to good people. It doesn't seem to matter if its a TV or shirt or a cooking pot or anything else if there is a discount then someone will actually fight someone else over it even if they don't even really need it. People have died because of it too. The funny thing is that alot of the discounts are either already available before black friday and pretty always continue after black friday as well. I guess I just dont understand how a $200 Tv or $20 pair of jeans is worth fighting for or even hurting someone else for. Ive been trying to think of ways to somehow stop this type of stuff from happening but I think in the end its going to have to be the major retail companies deciding to choose decency and safety over some extra money. I think if your gonna have big discounts then just spread it out over a stretch of time and dont make one day such a big draw for people. Its just not worth it, its just stuff, and I know for me id rather nothing at all for Christmas and still have my family and friends then to get everything I want but know that someone was hurt or even killed for it.
