jan 28 2023 At least two out of of five Memphis police officers charged with murder in the fatal beatdown of Tyre Nichols joined the force after the department relaxed its hiring requirements.

Tadarrius Bean and Demetrius Haley both joined the Memphis Police Department in Aug. 2020, NBC News reported, more than two years after the department dramatically loosened the education qualifications to become an officer.

Recruits no longer needed an associate’s degree or 54 college credit hours to join the force, and could get by with five years of work experience, Action 5 reported.

Loosening the required qualifications however means that the department is ultimately getting “less desirable” job candidates, Mike Alcazar, an adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a retired NYPD detective, told The Post.

Last year, the department lowered its standards again for new recruits, nixing the timed physical ability test and cutting college education requirements from 54 credit hours to just 24.

The department also revealed that was even offering waivers for people who have been convicted on felony charges.

I'm so sick of hearing nothing but this story for days. First of all I want to be clear that these cops (just like Chauvin) need to sit in a penetentiary for a long time.
BUT, people are forgetting something. When you are a cop and have to give chase it is natural to be scared and your adrenaline starts pumping. Once you run the guy down you are looking for knives or a gun and when it turns out he is just a dumbass it naturally pisses you off. It happens to inner city cops in this country all the time and it gets old and as a cop you want to resort to kicking the jackass in the head for scaring the shit out of you for no reason. Possibly even more because you didn't have a weapon and were harmless. It does not excuse the action but it does provide an underlying reason that no one in the media bothers to bring up. All they talk about was how the lovely boy liked to take pictures of the sunset and he loved his mother. If he was such an angel why the fuck was he running from the police?

Again, it is no excuse whatsoever for what these cops did and all of them should have a long time to think about it behind bars but please don't try and tell me that they had no reason whatsoever for kicking the dumbfuck after running him down. I'm sure I'd feel like kicking the asshole too if he gave chase, put other lives in danger and scared the shit out of me for no reason at all. I'm also sure that if the dumbass had not run from the police he would not have had the shit kicked out of him.

The video needs to be shown to every inner city police dept in the country and cops told that there are plenty of dumbasses out there and if you ever get sick of them and feel like doing this you best think about finding another job. I'm just sick of hearing every time this sort of thing happens that the poor victim was an angel and loved his mother and liked to take pictures of the sunset. They don't bother to mention that he also also liked to scare the shit out of a bunch of police officers, put countless other lives in danger and actually deserve to be smacked around a little. Busting his skull was a little overboard. The fact he or the police involved were black has absolutely nothing to do with the case.

I don't think it has anything to do with race. Inner city cops have to deal with assholes like this guy all the time and it gets old. These cops were black and they had no problem beating this black guy to death and would have done the same thing if he had been white. They become jaded and need to look at this video and if they at all feel like the victim here deserved it need to find another job or move to small town America where this shit rarely happens. BLM hasn't a fucking thing to do with it.
