Biotech company Moderna says its coronavirus vaccine is ready for first tests



London (CNN Business)US biotech firm Moderna has shipped an experimental coronavirus vaccine to US government researchers just six weeks after it started working on the immunization.

Initial trials of the potential vaccine could begin in April, but the process of testing and approvals would last at least a year.

Moderna (MRNA) said in a statement Monday that the first batch of its novel coronavirus vaccine, called mRNA-1273, has been sent to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

I posted about this several weeks ago, Chinese researchers first mapped the genome sequence of the virus, and following that, it took a couple of weeks for the scientists at the University of Texas to create the 3D atomic scale map of the protein virus. Now that they know the structure of the spike proteins then a vaccine should be available in due course.

Probably be next season before it’s ready for public use though.

But all that needs to happen is not have a major outbreak in the US this season and we can declare it done.

I would think Moderna isn't the only company working on a vaccine. China is responsible for this outbreak, they should be held responsible for the costs related to developing and administering a vaccine, the "containment" and medical costs of testing and transportation of victims. That should teach them not to hide viral infections when they develop, but rather inform the world before they let it spread all over the world. I'm surprised the left hasn't begun a lawsuit against China. Oh, their revered attorney Avenatti is locked up...

Oh, I think whoever develops the vaccine first will recoup their costs lol.

Socialists, pay attention: capitalism drives innovation and there’s literally no substitute for it. And it’s going to be a life saving innovation in this instance.

But good point about China—they shouldn’t have tried to cover it up. Though they maybe learned their lesson because it’s affecting their economy in a big way.

No doubt, whoever develops a vaccine will be well compensated for their efforts. Hopefully, they will make the formula available to other pharmaceutical companies around the world to combat this virus.

Of course, socialists will wait for someone else to develop a vaccine, then take control of it. But yes, there is more initiative in a capitalistic, or competitive market, to develop products than in government controlled development.

Yes, it's drastically affecting their economy having to shut down cities and their manufacturers. But it's affecting the whole world's economy, they should be held responsible for the stupidity of allowing it to spread to other countries.

Then produce enough to test it, Then run tests. if it works, then bigger tests. Once they lkie it, then they have to produce it. I think it was Azar who explained if they f they got a vaccine in a couple of months, it would take over a year to get in out to the public.
