Like Ice Cube said last night about the N word, "that's our word and you can't have it back". Clearly there are some people not happy about that.

Wait no more. Neither bothers me in the least, whether it's a racist shithead or a white liberal racist shithead. It's not a word we use, it's purely American.

How do YOU feel about your racial rules that restrict language for specific races but not others in your culture?
 
This is a brief clip from a longer documentary done in Mississippi back in 1965. Booker Wright speaks to the pain of repeatedly being called the N-word while at work. Clearly there are people who would have no problem going back to times like this when this rhetoric was in usual use. After this aired his restaurant in the black part of town was bombed and he was ultimately killed.

I get what he was saying - but ultimately, it's just another thing that highlights that "black & white" are separate.

The goal should be a color-free society, imo. Where we don't really see color - where it becomes something like eye or hair color, instead of some underlying & permanent difference between people. As long as we have things that only blacks can say, or that only whites can do, or whatever - it just perpetuates the difference, and keeps us from the goal.

Until Liberals like you stop supporting things like affirmative action, you're the last one to say the goal is a color free society. When you use skin color as part of a program you support, you work against the goal you say you want.

A color free society would be ideal but realistically that's just not going to happen. There is too much history with the N word in this country to have it turned into a regular word that all can use. I don't think non black people lose out not using it in their speech. CFM is a perfect example, look at how he uses the word.

I use it where it applies.

As long as people like Thingy, and perhaps you, support affirmative action, they're the last ones to talk about a color free society. I have no problem when the most qualified gets a job regardless of whether that person is black, white, yellow, green, blue, purple, or pink with gray polka dots. Where I have the problem is when those that support affirmative action say they want a color free society. By supporting such things, they're saying it's OK to use something to benefit that if used to deny would be wrong.

I think it can always remain as a goal - even if we're talking about very long-term. I agree that non-blacks lose nothing by not using it.

I just think that we've also given that word even more power than it has w/ the way we treat it now. I don't know what the answer really is, but it bothers me how a slip of the tongue like Maher's nearly becomes an international incident. I think it's so important to look at intent. His comment was stupid, but I don't think it was racist because I don't think he is racist, or intended it that way.

Its never needed. I have no idea what type of life you lead where you feel the need to be dropping n bombs. You would be the type in the Booker Wright clip that would use it to dehumanize others

CFM was passed over for a promotion at the toilet factory and a black guy got the job instead of him...
He thinks it was "affirmative action" ...But it was really CFM's lack of education and incompetence...
