Like what happened 11 years ago.

Or what happened 20 years before that.

Or what happened 60 years before that.

Come to think of it, capitalism never really worked...not without a strong social safety net to perpetually bail it out.

That is their plan; staff these departments at the top with the most corrupt, incompetent people they could find, then when those people inevitably fail because of their corruption and/or incompetence, install a for-profit lobbyist to raid it for their wealthy friends.

Conservatives say government is the problem, then get elected and prove it.

Privatized gains, socialized losses
 
I like limited capitalism and limited socialism. A hybrid has worked all around the globe for years. Government control of some things and regulation to make sure Corporation power does not take over. Otherwise limited restrictions.

Without the social safety net, capitalism would have failed back in the 1930's.

So yes, America is powerful...militarily powerful thanks to an entirely taxpayer-funded (aka socialist) military.
