Ford was in Latin America before 1980. The supply chain was slow and unreliable. Tech took one look at that and moved to China.

I bought a brand-new Ford truck in 1980. It said made in America. But it was made in South America and assembled in North America. The assembly line was so short on parts that they'd send vehicles to dealers with missing parts. That doesn't cut it in tech.
