"WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden used a virtual meeting with corporate leaders about a global shortage of semiconductors to push Monday for his $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan, telling them that the U.S. should be the world’s computer chip leader."

Should the US adopt 'Tech chips' as a National Defense industry and give it 'Preferential' (State support) treatment?
View it as a 'National Champion'?

"National champions
National champions are corporations which are technically private businesses but due to governmental policy are ceded a dominant position in a national economy. In this system, these large organizations are expected not only to seek profit but also to "advance the interests of the nation"; the government sets policies which favor these organizations.Wikipedia"

"“We need to build the infrastructure of today, not repair the one of yesterday,” he told the group of 19 executives from the technology, chip and automotive industries. “China and the rest of the world is not waiting and there’s no reason why Americans should wait.”"
Joe Biden.

Other than Bluntskull Leader, Anatta, does anybody think this is a Bad Idea?

Not a bad idea at all. What is a bad idea though is "...the government sets policies which favor these organizations."

America is not going to get what we are not willing to pay for...the "Be a good citizen please" plea will go nowhere.

Considering that The Future Is The Empire even paying might not be enough.

Unilateral economic measures imposed by the United States on segments of the supply chain, notably manufacturers such as TSMC, have fostered concern among private and public actors on the impact of action by U.S. leaders on global supply chains and corporate competitiveness. Recognizing critical bottlenecks and vulnerabilities, some companies are evaluating new production models, diversifying investments and suppliers to circumvent American economic policies, which could undermine U.S. primacy in the industry.

Collaboration between the Biden administration and American corporations will be key to balancing national security and commercial interests. Given that multilateral frameworks on semiconductor regulation do not include Taiwan or China, the Biden administration could bolster existing forums for enhanced American-Taiwanese economic relations through the Economic Prosperity Partnership Dialogue (EPP) and Sino-American relations through the Strategic Economic Dialogue. Evaluation of current tax codes and permitting processes under the Federal Clean Air Act, which now disincentivizes companies from investing in U.S.-based fabrication plants, will also be important to attracting investment and strengthening U.S. competitiveness in the sector.

Well, the 'Government' sets a 'Policy' (like say 'going to the Moon') and then devotes a lot of time, energy, and money to see that the Policy is carried out.
(It's called Central Planning, but for the Bluntskulls, it's probably better to call it 'National Security')

I think all politicians should have to reveal their stock holdings before this goes through.

I better idea would be to keep our own damn technology here instead of sending it to China and/or allowing them to steal it.

"It’s merely a symptom of a larger problem of the U.S. relying too much on Asia for critical parts such as semiconductors, said Ives said, who called the meeting long overdue. “I think now it’s just exposing the structural issues as well as some of the potential national security issues the U.S. faces, given our reliance on Asia,” he said."

So ... you're good with the State supporting 'Tech chips' as a 'strategic industry'?

Good luck with that. If politicians cannot fill their own pockets with our tax monies then no one gets a benefit.

I'm guessing you have no problem with the 'Defense Industry' and their annual 'cost overruns' in support of 'National Security'.

Follow the money back to the stocks politicians have in defense stocks and campaign contributions. I have no say in any of that.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

I love how you righties all start pretending to be concerned about the power of corporations when you don’t have control

But just like Mitch had to prostate himself after telling the corporations to stay out of politics

He quickly groveled the next day

Remember how happy you shits were when the SCOTUS decided corporations were people

The republicans can’t win elections without corporate money

Maybe we should free our Merchant Fleet of 'State Policy' and adopt a 'Open Market' approach. You know, let Owners build their ships anywhere? Right. Let Owners hire the best Mariners? Who would be against THAT?

Well, ... unless you were in one of the 'State Protected' Industries that favor Americans ... and America.

Sounds like a government fix for a government created problem.

It’s what the government does best.
