In March, El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele said that when candidates Biden and Harris vowed in the Democratic primary to give illegal immigrants free health care, it was an “incentive” for people to attempt the perilous journey to the United States. And last week, ahead of Harris’ visit, Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei blamed Team Biden’s wink-wink pro-illegal-migration rhetoric for the surge.

Giammattei said, “The message changed, to: ‘We’re going to *reunite families, we’re going to *reunite children.’ The very next day, the coyotes were here organizing groups of children to take them to the United States.”

Yes, I saw that. Your right-wing source harvested those quotations in support of that talking point. But the question remains what particular Biden policies are we talking about that would incentivize people to come to the US? Do we mean, for example, not allowing innocent babies to starve to death at the border? I guess I'd characterize that not as an incentive to come here, but rather just as eliminating one disincentive. People aren't trekking 1500 miles from Guatemala to the US border with their babies in tow, in hopes of being handed some baby formula when they're detained there... obviously.

There are two main incentives to come here. One, for the refugees, is fleeing the danger at home. The "incentive" in that case is that crime rates are lower here. The other, for the economic migrants, is the hope that there will be an illegal employer here willing to offer them a job. So, in that sense, the incentive isn't being provided by people like Biden, who simply make some humanitarian efforts to make sure innocent people aren't suffering and dying, but rather people like Trump, with his illegal employment schemes:

Not necessarily true. Where I live we have panic buying when there's a winter storm warning, because people may not be able to drive and get their favorite Doritos for two whole days.
