Biden Screws Up Big Again and Some Thoughts on Louisiana

Biden says Louisiana is losing 400 jobs a day when in reality they were one of the few states that GAINED jobs. Obviously Biden is not only senile but tries to generate fearmongering and make up believable facts almost as well as Watermark does.

"SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Giving the republican response to President Obama's speech Tuesday night, Governor Bobby Jindal pointed out fundamental differences in how republicans and democrats see the economy.

"But what I don't understand from Governor Jindal is what would he do?," asks Joe Biden while on the Early Show.
That rhetorical question to Governor Jindal on the Early Show, was followed with this.

"in Louisiana there's 400 people a day losing their jobs, what's he doing?" asks Biden.

But that claim is wrong, if you look at the numbers from the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

"In December, Louisiana was the only state in the nation besides the District of Columbia, according to the national press release that added employment over the month," says Patty Granier with the Louisiana Workforce Commission. According to her, not only is Louisiana not losing jobs. "The state gained 3,700 jobs for the seasonally adjusted employment," Granier said of the most recent figures. "

So the other thoughts I had was that if Louisiana is doing well (and they became more Conservative Republican after Katrina), perhaps they can take on a bit more of the job of repairing their state from Katrina and forgo the remaining aid cash from DC:

Seems fair.

Excellent catch on Biden's BS! Biden must think that if he just throws enough crap something's bound to stick.

Biden is citing a stat from the Bureau of Labor stats. He's not pulling something out of nothing.

This isn't a classic "Biden blunder." You can argue that the Bureau of Labor's stats should not be cited, but it would be a strange argument. Those are the stats he was using. He wasn't making anything up.
Whether he's pulling something out of nothing, if both stats are accurate (and they can be) then he is simply wrong. It's like an idiot who thinks there really is a "missing dollar" he might not be pulling it out of thin air, but he is certainly misapplying data.

No, he is not citing a crediable source, or he would have said unemployment went up. What he DID say is they are "LOSING 430 jobs/day". And that claim is incorrect. They GAINED jobs. His numbers were right, but his claims were not.

Jobs are LOST when businesses are laying off people faster than new jobs are being created. According to LA, they have not had that happen, but (probably due to ongoing recovery projects) have continued to gain jobs.

However it would seem an influx of people was greater than the additional jobs. (as was suggested, probably from people returning to their home areas they were forced out of during Katrina and its aftermath) Unemployment increases when population increase outpaces jobs creation, which can happen in some areas even in times of general economic growth.

But go ahead and keep your head up that donkey's ass. I'm sure the view is great.
