Biden poised for big wins in Congress

WASHINGTON — The first major prescription drug legislation in nearly 20 years. More than $50 billion to subsidize computer chip manufacturing and research. A bill that would enshrine protection for same-sex marriage.

After a turbulent stretch in which much of President Joe Biden's legislative agenda seemed to be foundering, the president and his party may be on the cusp of significant wins in Congress that the White House hopes will provide at least a modest political boost.

Most politically resonant is a bill to let Medicare negotiate drug prices, a hugely popular idea that Democrats have been pursuing for more than 20 years. Even before that - possibly within days - Congress is likely to pass a bill providing $52 billion to the U.S. semiconductor industry, intended to bolster the U.S. economy and cut China's influence. "We're close, so let's get it done," Biden said of the bill on Monday. "So much depends on it."

Meanwhile, a bill that Democrats offered to codify same-sex marriage recently attracted 47 Republican votes in the House, surprising leaders of both parties and igniting a push by Senate Democrats to pass the legislation in their chamber as well.

Between this and his one trillion dollar infrastructure bill, Biden is actively trying to position America to be economically competitive against 21st century adversaries.

Meanwhile, Republican priorities are focused on banning reproductive choice, banning school textbooks, and complaining about wokeness.

I am sure Nancy Pelosi and her husband will cleanup on stock purchases shortly.

GOP is opposed to democracy and believes a violent coup is an expression of free speech.

The GOP doesn't have a coherent political philosophy, they don't even have any tangible policies or initiatives of their own.

In that sense, they are not even a respectable world political party. They are just a collection of grievances who simply define themselves by being against whatever Democrats are for

They have a very explicit policy. Do the bidding of the ruling class and punish the middle class and the poor. Authoritarianism verging on fascism. It is not innocuous.

And ending gay marriage

Infrastructure needs to be bragged about

People always just think their county and state did it

Big things don’t happen without Fed funds

Yeah, there were some conservatives on this board who tried to lecture me that the GOP had changed it's stripes on the whole, and supposedly had become enlightened on marriage equality.

Yeah the lies never stop falling off their lips

Remember when Matt rated out the whole party for inviting him to sex parties?

Then you dumped the crippled kid for it

I doubt that, would love to be surprised, but history, the demographics, and the image of the economy, all work assist it, you can inform the public of the facts, but it doesn’t beat what they see at the gas pump daily

The Democrats only hope is holding on to the Senate, plus winning some key State positions, which with some of the fringe candidates the GOP are running, might be possible

Get ready for little Jimmy Jordan’s redundant and endless “investigations” into anything he can coverage on in the Murdoch empire

The way I look at it, Biden's initiatives on infrastructure, technology, prescription drugs, marriage equality protection are going to provide benefits for Americans for years and decades to come. Long after we stop talking about Trump, Matt Gaetz, and Desantis.

I think that is exactly what you want from political leadership.

Wouldn’t doubt it, but little of it will help the Democrats in 2022. I had thought on a Congressional level pinpointing GOP candidates on such as guns, abortion, and the findings on 1/6 would aid the Democrats, but even together, they don’t beat the gas pump reality.

Yes, I don't think these initiatives constitute a watershed moment in 2022 electoral calculations, except at the margins.
