Biden oil move aims to cut gas prices ‘fairly significantly’

Instead of Allowing More Domestic Oil Production, Biden Is Tapping into Strategic Reserves Again and Ignoring the “Root Causes” of Higher Prices

President Joe Biden’s Interior Department’s reports indicate that there may be no offshore lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico until fiscal 2024, which will further Biden’s ban on oil drilling on federal lands and waters. Instead, Biden will release a million barrels of oil per day from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) for 6 months. That amount of U.S. oil release is equivalent to about two days of global demand. It would mark the third time that Biden has tapped U.S. strategic reserves in the past six months, and would be the largest release in the near 50-year history of the Reserve. The U.S. SPR currently holds 568.3 million barrels–its lowest level since May 2002. (SPR has a total capacity of 714 million barrels.) The oil release would increase supplies by 1 million barrels per day for six months and help the market rebalance, but it does not resolve the structural supply deficit. The Biden administration is also considering temporarily removing curbs on summer sales of higher-ethanol gasoline blends to lower fuel costs.

So where is the uptick in President Biden's approval rating but of course the trolls will continue to have a damned if you do and damned if you don't cruddy attitude:

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden on Thursday ordered the release of 1 million barrels of oil per day from the nation’s strategic petroleum reserve for six months, a bid to control energy prices that have spiked after the United States and allies imposed steep sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

The president said it was not known how much gasoline prices could decline as a result of his move, but he suggested it might be “anything from 10 cents to 35 cents a gallon.” Gas is averaging about $4.23 a gallon, compared with $2.87 a year ago, according to AAA.

“The bottom line is if we want lower gas prices we need to have more oil supply right now,” Biden said. “This is a moment of consequence and peril for the world, and pain at the pump for American families.”

Three things you buffoon
1. Brandon is stealing from what might be needed to protect our own country.
2. Brandon is doing this because every country he has has to beg for more oil from has said no or in the Saudi's case, they never returned his call.
3. Why should the oil companies spend one more penny exploring and drilling when the fucking "woke" administration has publically it is their mission to
eliminate the internal combustion engine.

He is most definitely a buffoon without question!

President Biden’s Administration is looking for all sorts of ways to lower oil prices except the ones that would actually work. Had Biden allowed the Keystone XL pipeline to be completed, it could already be shipping more oil from North Dakota and neighboring Canada, where the U.S. gets most of its oil imports, and alleviate some of the oil supply shortages. If Biden would remove his ban on new drilling on federal lands and water, it would encourage new investment in oil and gas development. If Biden would allow ANWR and the Naval Petroleum Reserve-Alaska to be developed, Alaska could support its pipeline that barely has enough oil flow to keep it operational. Rather than grabbing at straws, Biden needs to hold U.S. lease sales for oil and gas onshore and offshore and to approve the over 4,000 drilling permits that his Administration is sitting on. Those are the root causes of rising energy prices, despite the rhetoric coming from the Biden Administration.

You forgot one of the most impportant points, that being, high oil prices finance the Russians attacking Ukraine.

releasing the strategic reserves is the dumb way to lower prices.

the smart way is to increase our domestic production.

but biden is dumb, as mentioned.

Hello Nordberg,

Biden is wrong. Oil prices are not that dependent on supply. Russia is 3 percent of the American oil supply. That is not what made prices go up a couple of bucks. Oil companies use the war as an excuse to jack up profits.

It's a bit of each. Oil companies are getting a windfall. The real culprit is the sanctions placed on Russia. President Biden warned us before taking that move, just after Putin attacked, that this move was going to make gasoline prices rise. As usual, Biden was correct.

Gee, ya think?

Oil prices are not that dependent on supply. Russia is 3 percent of the American oil supply

Then why is the guacamole brain-in-chief trying to bring prices down by increasing the supply? (you might know this by another name: "the release of 1 million barrels of oil per day from the nation’s strategic petroleum reserve for six months"). A couple other points though. The SPR is for emergencies. Is 'tater head finally admitting that this is an emergency? Because if he is, than it's another artificial obamaesque self-inflicted fuck up that was totally avoidable.

That is not what made prices go up a couple of bucks.

Yeah, can't say you're wrong there. Those prices started going up like a jeff bezos space dick about 48 hours after guacamole brain was crowned king of this idiocracy, with no help from the russians at all. The price rose then because of the world FUTURES market (BTW, it's actually the world market that sets the price, and OPEC, which includes russia, pretty much controls production).

Oil companies use the war as an excuse to jack up profits.

No they don't. The market determines the prices based on production and SUPPLY. If the supply of crude is strangled off or disrupted (for instance, some idiot decides to kill a pipeline between Canada and the U.S.) crude becomes more scarce, and the price goes up. Now let's pretend a russian idiot decides to invade his peaceful neighbor because...nazis. The SUPPLY of russian dead dinosaurs dries up while they murder a bunch of civilians, so the price of energy going into Europe skyrockets. The cause of all this is squarely on the shoulders of a bunch of American green new deal idiots and that demented old bastard they call their boss.

You mean during the pandemic when the majority of the country wasn't traveling nor driving to work and demand was artificially low?

Meh, that would be nice, but pre-pandemic was pretty great too. In 2017-early 2018, the avg PPG was $2.40.

Let us know when it back to where Trump left office at 1.80

Call me when he gets it back down to Trump level.

Do you mean when the price gets back down to where it was during the heydays of the PANDEMIC- where the price fell due to the lack of the demand?

But hey- Keep the Charades going OK? Everyone knows the reasons why gasoline was cheaper during the Trump era- AND IT ABSOLUTELY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY TRUMP POLICY!

I have no clue what you're talking about here. Enlighten me. Be forewarned, if you mention putin, I will come through your screen and wrap my hands around your.....................power cord, unplug your computer, and give you a stern rebuke! All I know is he deregulated stuff and made the XL pipeline a priority. His best policy may have been to not have much policy at all except to get the government boot off the necks of the producers. Thats the difference between a right winger and a left winger there, you get less government with the right, and the left wants to see into my bank account when I want to buy bubble gum.
