They were dismissed from the jobs and being investigated for it as well. I have not heard their excuse, maybe it was because they put their political beliefs before their duty. Sicknick was a Trump supporter who questioned the elections, but he defended the Capitol. He did his duty, the others, not so much.

Reminds of the #BLM claim that off duty officers were responsible for violence and looting at their rallies. On one hand I'm thinking that makes no sense. But the argument is they were there to instigate and cause trouble with the hopes it gives the cops more power and sympathy. I don't know if that is true but both scenarios are not totally out of realm of possibility.

I've never heard that particular claim about off-duty officers, but definitely outside agitators took advantage of the protests to create chaos and anarchy, looting and burning.

There is no possible scenario in which any sane person can believe the bullshit that the terrorist attack on our Capitol was done by anyone other than the angry, disappointed Cultists whose would-be despot lost a fair election.
