Back in my day they had these things called "Entrance Exams"; And if you didn't score good, they recommended a trade school. You were not admitted if not college material.

Many of those schools that closed were "trade/vocational" schools for students who did not attend accredited colleges. It is just a scam to get government money. Many of those students don't care if they default on loans (many do) and the colleges paid many of them to enroll.

Originally, these schools did not qualify for federal financial aid since they were not accredited, but the government allowed them to create their own accrediting agency to qualify. Nobody ever failed a class but most still not complete the subpar programs. Nursing graduates could not get jobs because they had never been in a hospital.
