Bernanke

Looks like he got approved for a second term. We like to argue about what Bush and Obama do with the economy but in reality Bernanke has more influence over the economy than they do. Are people happy he's back for another four years? It looks like he is going to keep interest rates low for the near term in order to try and boost the economy. It was also low interest rates that caused the housing bubble last decade.

I'm not happy. As I have said a few times, his singular focus on price stability as the most important Fed function at the expense of the Fed's mandate to pursue policies promoting full employment are a problem for me.

I'm not a fan of keep around the guys who essentially either created or assisted the screw-ups of the last decade. Obama thinks that since these guys now "work for me" he can get them to do the right thing. Unless he's going to threaten them with jail if they mess up, that's a bad idea. Let's hope I'm wrong.

You usually are.
