BBC condemned for hosting web debate: Should Gays Be Executed?

MPs have criticised the BBC for hosting an online debate asking whether homosexuals should be executed.

The debate on the Have Your Say website, which was originally entitled “Should homosexuals face execution”, has attracted more than 600 comments, only 200 of which were deemed suitable for publication. Last night it was listed as the most popular forum on the BBC’s website.

The corporation changed the headline to “Should Uganda debate gay execution?” after lobbying by the BBC Pride board, which is composed of gay and lesbian staff at the corporation.

The forum’s introduction said: “Should homosexuals face execution? Yes, we accept it is a stark and disturbing question. But this is the reality behind an Anti-Homosexuality Bill being debated on Friday by the Ugandan Parliament which would see some homosexual offences punishable by death.”

While many contributors expressed shock that the question was up for discussion, some agreed with the notion that gay people should be put to death.

Chris from Guildford, wrote: “Totally agree. Ought to be imposed in the UK too, asap. Bring back some respectable family values. Why do we have to suffer ‘gay pride’ festivals? Would I be allowed to organise a ‘straight pride’ festival? No, thought as much!! If homosexuality is natural, as we are forced to believe, how can they sustain the species? I suggest all gays are put on a remote island and left for a generation — after which, theoretically there should be none left!”

Another, from Aaron in Freetown, said: “Bravo to the Ugandans for this wise decision, a bright step in eliminating this menace from your society. We hope other African nations will also follow your bold step.”

The fact that this was even debated is disgusting.

Substitute any minority in this debate and see what screams come rolling in.
 
It's crazy indeed, some rightwing religious nuts helped frame a law in Uganda saying gay's should be killed. Could we get Mitt Romney to suggest that in Cali? Please

And your comment about minorities is only true if you are referring to racial or ethnic minorities. I did not limit it to those minorities.

And this is really not relevant. If gays choose to be gay (and I do not believe they do), do you think there should even be a discussion of whether or not they should be executed?
 
Dopers choose to be dopers and when they do lose rights and privileges. Queers choose queer and only lose a few privileges. What's the big fucking deal? Stop whining.

Only by clinging to your antiquated notions of gays choosing to be gay, can you pretend to not be a bigot. The majority of the research finds it to be something you are born as. Almost all the reputable research shows this.

And this is not about losing "few privileges". This is about people thinking it would be right to execute gay people. Perhaps if you were honest, you would agree with them.

But it is a disgusting debate nonetheless.
 
Insults and ridicule is all you have since you have no honest ammunition for debate.

The queer lobby has powerful influence of the APA and as such steers "research" to fuel their agenda.

The fact is, however, that most know folks who led normal lives then choose queerness or the other way around. I know a pair of identical twins; one gay, one ain't. The only rational explanation there is choice.

Perhaps some queers have a chemical imbalance and didn't choose, like mental retardation. However we don't give retarded folks all the normal privileges either.

The fact that you equate homosexuality and mental retardation shows the lack of knowledge concerning human sexuality.

So most of the research is "steered" in a certain direction to promote an agenda? That is a farfetched conspiracy theory.

I am glad you knew a few gay people. Congrats. The identical twins anecdote proves nothing, since even identical twins have some differences (the word "identical" is an inaccurate description) I know gay people who swear they have never been attracted to the opposite sex in their entire life.



But none of that has any bearing on the fact that people are actually debating on whether or not to execute gay people. We are not talking about privileges or the ability to marry. We are talking about murdering people because they are gay.

Unless you have any justification for that, your hissy fits is nothing more than an attempt to contradict whatever point I take or whatever side I choose.

Are you wanting to debate whether or not gays should be executed?? Otherwise, your statements have no bearing on the topic at hand.

The debate was on whether they should be executed. That appears to be a bit more than you suggest in this post.

This is speculation only. Science has not determined that homosexuality is pure choice or genetic anomaly. Until such time as it has been proven beyond a doubt, homosexuals shouldn't be treated any differently than people with HOCM, sickle cell, or cancer.
