Battle ground states tilt towards trump

CNN Poll: Biden tops Trump nationwide, but battlegrounds tilt Trump

Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden's lead over President Donald Trump now stands at five points, but Trump has an edge in the critical battleground states that could decide the electoral college, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS.

In the new poll, 51% of registered voters nationwide back Biden, while 46% say they prefer Trump, while in the battlegrounds, 52% favor Trump and 45% Biden. Partisans are deeply entrenched in their corners, with 95% of Democrats behind Biden and the same share of Republicans behind Trump. The two are close among independents (50% back Trump, 46% Biden, not a large enough difference to be considered a lead), but Biden's edge currently rests on the larger share of voters who identify as Democrats.

The former vice president continues to hold healthy leads among women (55% Biden to 41% Trump) and people of color (69% Biden to 26% Trump). The two run more closely among men (50% Trump to 46% Biden) and the President holds a clear edge among whites (55% Trump to 43% Biden). The poll suggests Biden outpaces Trump among voters over age 45 by a 6-point margin, while the two are near even among those under age 45 (49% Biden to 46% Trump).
Though other recent polling has shown some signs of concern for Biden among younger voters and strength among older ones, few have pegged the race as this close among younger voters. The results suggest that younger voters in the battleground states are tilted in favor of Trump, a stark change from the last CNN poll in which battleground voters were analyzed in March, even as other demographic groups shifted to a smaller degree. Given the small sample size in that subset of voters, it is difficult to determine with certainty whether the movement is significant or a fluke of random sampling. Nationally, Biden holds a lead over Trump among voters age 65 and older, a group which has been tilted Republican in recent presidential elections.

Trump's biggest advantage over Biden in the poll comes on his handling of the economy. Most voters, 54%, say they trust the President to better handle the nation's economy, while 42% say they prefer Biden. An earlier release from the same CNN poll found the public's ratings of the economy at their worst level since 2013, as a growing share said the economic damage wrought by the coronavirus outbreak could be permanent. But Biden does have the advantage as more trusted to handle the response to the coronavirus outbreak (51% Biden to 45% Trump) and health care (54% Biden to 42% Trump).

Voters divide over which of the two has the stamina and sharpness to be president (49% say Trump, 46% Biden), a frequent attack Trump levels against the former vice president. But Biden outpaces Trump across five other tested attributes. His advantage is largest on which candidate would unite the country and not divide it (55% say Biden would, 38% Trump), followed by being honest and trustworthy (53% choose Biden, 38% Trump). Biden is seen as caring more about people like you (54% Biden vs. 42% Trump), better able to manage government effectively (52% Biden to 45% Trump) and more trusted in a crisis (51% Biden to 45% Trump).

More to argue about @ source

Okay if this makes you feel better, but its all in how you group the "battleground" states, if you pick only the four that matter, PA, MI, WI, and and MN Biden leads in each state. That might change, but if it makes you feel better, temporary go for it.

I have no idea how Biden will be as President.

But if you lived in America over he past 2 months, and understand that COVID will be with us for awhile - how in the world do you make the decision that you want 4 more years of THIS kind of leadership? What about this is appealing?

Trump will not debate. He knows very little. He does not want to answer questions about why he took Obama's great economy down to depression levels and blew Corona badly. He cannot defend a huge tax cut for wealthy and corporations. Trump is a divider energizing small groups into hate .Trump is a disaster.

China is the cause of death and economic loss caused by the virus from China that China failed to contain.

The American economy will be booming soon, as it was before China spread their virus around the world.

Every state except two have reopened and those two are in the process of reopening.

The business of America is business and the only ones opposing the reopening of America are Democrats.

If you want to see if Trump will win or not, play around with the map.

RCP has:
Biden up by 6 points in PA
Biden up by 5.5 in MI
Biden up by 4.4 in AZ

If Biden wins those 3 states and keeps MN(up 12) and VA (up 7.3) he has enough electoral votes to win.

That isn't even counting the following states where Biden is leading in polling -
NV(up 4), FL(up 3.2), WI(2.7)

If Biden wins every state where he is currently polling 4 points or more ahead of Trump he wins the Presidency.

Interesting that Trump won Texas by 9 points but is only ahead of Biden by 2.5 in current polling averages. If Trump is 7 points down from 4 years ago in Texas, it doesn't bode well for him in the rest of the country.

If trump supporters want to believe this is a slam dunk for trump... I strongly support them in that belief. They should take it easy.

I do not think trump will win, but still believe it is a strong possibility.

Hilary ws leading by the same margins..I don't trust polling except to look for trending, and this far out not even for that

you at least got the doddering part correct. as usual you are wrong about everything else. like the Adderall

-have you noticed Biden isn't constantly stuttering and blanking out? He's the one on Adderall
You are free to your opinions but I disagree about being wrong on "everything else". Obviously Trump has more than just run-of-the-mill "eccentricities". Trump's behavior changes dramatically at times. That's not normal. As for Biden taking Adderall, maybe he does. He could use some. If he is, he's certainly not using as much as Trump.

Unlike you who thinks Trump can do no wrong, I think both nominees are poor candidates to lead our nation. Both major parties are putting party first and the needs of the nation second. Just like you.

Agreed. A lot can change in 173 days until the election. Pence, Trump, Biden and half of Congress could be dead. Wouldn't that make for an interesting election? Guess who takes over if both Pence and Trump are incapacitated? That would be a nightmare, eh?

Well, you certainly have to look at the POLLS!

But then you can't ignore the over-all lead that Biden has now- and no shit thrown on the wall by the hateful lying TRUMPTARDS is going to change that!

It is nice to know that you are on the side of the Vocal and Voting majority that all they have to do is just tell the truth!

I am more confident than ever that Trump will lose the election without Biden even having to win it!

I criticise Trumps speech.
I let it go because he's constantly being attacked by fake news. He's constantly on the defensive

Further words are ephemeral. . I support Trump because of his policies. Every damn one of them looks good with the passage of time, unlike the Obama clusterfuck of foreign screw ups ( Libya / sanctions on Egypt etc.)

ROFLMAO

No doubt you fully support his views, a fluid as they are, leading the nation through a pandemic. BTW, do you agree we'll hit 100,000 deaths by the end of them month? That's a lot more than Trump's "15".

Trump won’t debate, I’ve always predicted this. He knows how stupid he will look on the issues. He can’t answers basic questions on policies, let alone go into details on issues.
Hillary tore him up in '16, but he was successful at turning the debates into a reality t.v. show. ''You're a puppet!!!"

Of course, Comey sealed the deal nicely.

Gingrich was a distinct point, but it began with Reagan, whom I liked, letting the Christian Coalition to have a main seat at the Republican table. That's when the GOP started to die and all of this Biblical law stuff started along with them starting to act more like RW Democrats than Conservatives.
I agree. The gridlock was a specific program that Gingrich pushed, as the House hadn't been Republican in ages. The specific plan was to fight about everything, and not give an inch on any policy. That began the gridlock we see throughout Washington.

not his "views". his policies
I especially wanted a"Russian reset", but that will have to wait till next term

Based on the RealClearPolitics average Trump only leads in NC.
Well, I used to equate this to being excited about the Mets being in first place in April. Back when there used to be a thing we called 'baseball'.

There's a lot of time between now and November. This shit show is going to be interesting.

They'll debate. Sure, Biden will look like a kindly, doddering grandfather and Trump will look like a Bad Grandpa hopped up on Adderall, but they'll debate.
Said grandfather will, however, be strong on specific issues, while trump has no clue about basic geography or foreign affairs.
