Batgirl’ movie gets ‘shelved’ by Warner Bros. despite $70M price tag: source

A movie failed... You understand that not all cancelations are part of "cancel culture"... In fact, I am beginning to think "cancel culture" does not even really exist.

Marvel is doing great things. It is extremely successful, feeding on its own success. Meanwhile, DC is failing or maybe just being mediocre, which seems like failure compared to Marvel. How can a universe with Superman and Batman be only mediocre? It blows the mind.

Part of the problem is they let their director get out of control. Marvel has each movie, and TV series feed into a greater universe. That does mean that every director has to fit his piece into a bigger puzzle, so has less control.

I could go on, but none of it is about being "woke." If anything, the Marvel directors are more woke than the DC directors... I am thinking of Joss Whedon.. Whedon is very talented, but he is also very creepy.

if you saw the Batgirl costume you might change your mind. The young lady is very pretty but they have her in a painfully ugly and unflattering coveralls.
 
I heard that it was more like $90 million, and that the film tests so poorly with audiences that the studio decided that the best option was walk away. Yes, it is the common problem with Hollywood now, the story telling is God awful, sacrificed on the alter of WOKE. A secondary problem likely is that she is too good looking in her costume, which is not allowed in dreary WOKE.
 
Hopefully it leaks, so that we can see for sure why this is so bad/offensive to WOKE that it cant be released at all.

I believe the test audiences, who apparently said it was horrible. They could have tried to make it a bit better, but they would be just trying to fool people into buying tickets for a horrible disappointment. It would destroy the rest of the DC Universe, and was not worth it. Even if they could have made back $50 million of their losses, their next movies would lose $100 million of what they would have made.

Was it because of terrible customs? You might be right.

Surely this suffers from "Girl with magical powers making a boring story because it is all Bull Shit" syndrome.

Also so common in Hollywood now "Men Suck!" syndrome.

The claim is that "cancel culture" is cancelling great things because they are not "woke". This is not a great thing, so it would not apply here. It is being cancelled because it is "God awful."
 
So many males have had their fill of spending a bunch of money to get told that men suck at the movies.

Actually, women heroes (and villains) in the DC Universe have often had better stories than men. This has been especially true with Harley Quinn; good movies, and a fantastic series.

Audiences hate it and main character is too sexy for WOKE would certainly do it.

To be "cancel culture" you need audiences to love it, but those "elites in Hollywood" cancelled it anyway for not being "woke." This is a case of audiences hating it, so it was cancelled. That is a normal cancellation.

From the picture I saw of the custom, I agree with CelticGuy, it is hardly "too sexy." Harley Quinn might be closer to "too sexy", but audiences and studio executives love that character, so she is not being cancelled.
 
The big crash of Hollywood, the constantly ruining stories to push their politics, happened around 2011-2013. The Great Recession had a lot to do with it, there was a losing of faith in America and American leaders, Hollywood rapidly became radicalized to the point that they became willing to ruin the art they produced to push their UTOPIAN DREAMS.

Hollywood is ashes now, and the Chinese will not save them, they increasingly only want to see Chinese made films.
