Radiation would be carried on regular winds for days and days. And we would nuke Russia and that radiation would comeback on the jet stream. No one would win. A Golden Dome would make a nuclear first strike less survivable for the attacker because we could counter attack. Canada's farmland would be contaminated.

We should keep in mind also, that pretty much all of Canada's major cities are located right on or very near the northern border of the US.

Since it's highly doubtful Russia or China would waste missiles striking the vast northern Canadian wilderness anyway, any attack on Canada's cities would necessitate a self interested defensive response by America whether Canada was a partner or not.

So why should they feel pressured to cooperate with an asshole who's treated them like shit?

They know that the US is in the position of having to defend their cities from missile attacks no matter what they do.
