Backtrack some more, lyin Ryan

Ignorance goes on ignore
Campaign aides for Republican vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) busied themselves this weekend with telling reporters that the candidate “agrees with Mitt Romney” on keeping marijuana illegal, despite him telling a Colorado television station that he supports letting states flout federal laws on medical marijuana.

Romney said earlier this year that he believes “marijuana should not be legal in this country,” calling it “a gateway drug to other drug violations.”

The views would seem to directly clash with what Ryan told KRDO-TV in Colorado on Friday night. “My personal positions on this issue have been let the states decide what to do with these things,” he remarked during a pre-taped interview. “This is something that is not a high priority of ours as to whether or not we go down this issue. But I’ve always believed is the states should make the right to decide.”

Ryan was trying to draw a contrast with President Barack Obama’s apparent hypocrisy in seemingly asking for marijuana consumers to vote for him by promoting popular stoner characters Harold and Kumar in a commercial, even though he’s taken a hardline stance against medical marijuana dispensaries in states where voters have approved them.

A
nd? That's one big issue I have with Obama, his flip-flop on weed.

he didn't actually retract his position

please, can we get smarter liberals on this board?

FIRST he says the states should decide...

THEN he says it should stay illegal...

So much for letting the states decide...or remaining consistent.

cite where he said medical MJ should remain illegal.

thanks.

Maybe you are missing some nuance here. He says it should be a state issue and the voters of each state should get to decide, but as long as it's a federal issue which applies to everyone, he will remain opposed to nationwide legalization. This isn't a contradictory position, it is pretty much in-line with what most Republicans, whether libertarian, constitutionalist, or tea party, believe as well.

Now the Democrats... They believe that politicians should give good speeches and make people feel good about hope for the future. And when they gain power, will do everything they can to make sure you don't achieve those hopes for the future, because then you wouldn't be inspired by their speeches anymore. As long as you don't have whatever it is you are hoping for, they can dangle the carrot out there, and you are stupid enough to keep electing them to power. It has become a really big problem lately.

i asked where RYAN said that. can you do that?

At a Federal level, he agrees that marijuana should remain illegal. But he also thinks states should be allowed to decide on a state-by-state basis, whether they can have medical marijuana. The thing is, Democrats also believe pot should remain illegal at the federal level, and that is why you don't see pot legalization as part of their national platform, they wouldn't get 30% of the vote, and in some places, they wouldn't get 2%. They simply CAN'T adopt a position favoring national legalization of pot. It's not going to happen.

What CAN happen however, is people can be elected who believe in Federalism (State's Rights) and who believe these issues can and should be decided by the voters of a state, and not dictated-upon-high by the Federal government. That would enable more liberal states to adopt MM laws and if it ever got to the point where most states had those laws, the Supreme Court would rule that everyone must be given the same rights under the law, and viola... we have nationwide legalization of medical marijuana. That's the ONLY way this happens in a Constitutional republic such as ours. The FED is NEVER going to legalize it.

It's nuanced to the point of parsing, but is is possible to keep the same situation we have now -Schedule 1 at the Federal level, but not reaching into state law.

The problem though is that is such a delicate balance, it doesn't work in the real world. See various threads. See what is happening with the USDA's random RICO threats to the dispensarys.

I showed you.

That you choose to once again ignore the proof and to play the same tired, hair-splitting word games shows you were never truly interested in getting the truth.

You know Zap, those campaign aides were just LYING through their teeth and any day now we'll hear they got fired for what they did. Obviously Ryan's campaign aides went rogue and now we can't trust them to state honestly Ryan's position on the topic.

And the moon's made out of green cheese.

you quoted his aides....not ryan.

can you please be honest just for one minute?

Riiiiiight...just show me where Ryan has stated his aides don't speak for him and I will agree.

Candidate's aides speak for the candidates all the time...that you play this pathetic word parsing game only reinforces the strength of my position..

Like I said...this is just more hair-splitting nonsense designed to cover your ass so you won't have to admit you are wrong yet again.

so ryan never said what the OP claimed....thanks for admitting that christie.

So the aides were lying about what Ryan said, got it.

I suppose you think everything any candidate says, Dem or Repub, is immortalized on YouTube.

i never said that christie, nor do i think that. i simply said, ryan never said that and you agree with that statement. until i hear from ryan his thoughts or counter thoughts according to left wing sources..... on medical MJ, i reserve opinion.

Of COURSE you are right.

You can't swing a dead cat in DC without hitting a campaign aide under investigation for spreading phony position statements about the candidate they work for to every media outlet in the country!

ANY DAY NOW we can expect Ryan to fire his aides for spreading such obvious falsehoods about him!

Behold the amazing word parsing, hair-splitting Yurt...able to take both sides of an argument at the same time!

Able to sit on BOTH SIDES OF A FENCE SIMULTANEOUSLY!
