It is very doubtful anyone could pardon themselves but ultimately the SC would have to decide since it is not clearly written either way.

it obviously would fly in the face of the concept of 'no one is above the law'.

A POTuS who could pardon himself, could murder his political opponent who was set to beat him, and if he got caught just pardon himself. No system of Justice, and no SC Justice, outside Thomas, would see that as legit.

Staffer, smarter than Trump, realizes having the documents is a problem.

Trump has had numerous 'real' lawyers come and leave, when they realized they could not help him because the Tom Fitton and Boris Epstein were convincing him that the same Derp defense the stupidest posters amongst us keep repeating, that 'this is a PRA case and he can do whatever he wants', is a real defense. Not one real lawyer was willing to go to court and try to argue that and no top lawyers want to go in to a case that is a sure loser. It makes them look stupid and unknowledgeable in law when they show up to court with a defense and the Judge disallows the defense even being able to speak on it.


My biggest hope is that Trump gets Alina Haba or that level of lawyer, dumb enough to try and argue a "PRA defense' to show up in court with that defense and then when its denied they stand there like an idiot, jaw dropped that they have no defense to offer. Much like happened in many of the stolen election cases where the Judges denied them the ability to argue many of their more specious points (conspiracy theories) in court.
