Attorney General Garland should appoint a special counsel to investigate Trump

"Several recent developments have brought us to this moment. On March 2, the House select committee investigating the Capitol siege alleged in a federal court filing that it had amassed evidence that Trump illegally schemed to stop the lawful transfer of power to Joe Biden."

The time has come for Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint a special counsel to investigate Donald Trump. That step offers the best way to reassure the country that no one is above the law, justice is nonpartisan and fears of political fallout will not determine the decision on whether to bring charges.

These events raise public expectations and heighten the political pressure on the Justice Department. On one side are those counseling Garland to refrain from acting against Trump lest the attorney general be accused of engaging in a partisan vendetta.

On the other are those, including us, who believe that Trump’s alleged role in a conspiracy intended to interfere with congressional duty is so unprecedented that ordinarily close legal questions bend in favor of taking action to protect the rule of law.

groundhog day

moron liberals are going to hate the next election. so sick of you shit stains

It is because of this that a special prosecutor is likely, IMHO. Basically you install a "special prosecutor" when you know you won't be able to continue the "investigation" once you lose the majority in the House and/or Senate. This makes it so you have someone constantly available to "leak" bad information on your political opponent during the interim to the next election where such leaks can provide a larger impact.

Both parties do this. Anyway that's why Durham is still actively investigating.

We disregard that it makes the US look like a banana republic where we try to jail every past administration and just keep going (like Dorie).

nothing to date in the Durham probe has been overtly political. whataboutism is bullshit here and until that changes - to claim this investigation is the same as the Russian one is just more political bullshit

Trump lawyer knew plan to delay Biden certification was unlawful, emails show

Interrupting the certification of Joe Biden’s election win on 6 January last year as part of the scheme to return Donald Trump to office was known to be unlawful by at least one of the former president’s lawyers, according to an email exchange about the potential conspiracy.

The former Trump lawyer John Eastman – who helped coordinate the scheme from the Trump “war room” at the Willard hotel in Washington – conceded in an email to counsel for then vice-president Mike Pence, Greg Jacob, that the plan was a violation of the Electoral Count Act.

Mueller did exactly that. he identified the people and communication that went on between Trumps staff and Russian hackers. They worked together on targeting. Mueller did not have the powers to go after the president, so he identified the transgressions and suggested the house should do their jobs and prosecute the case.

Trump: "Russia, if you're listening...." They were. Within hours they broke into Hillary's and the DNC email accounts and sent it to Trump.
