I have been gone a long time....But the core of Rockford was work ethic and decency....which included a wide berth to let others live as they wanted so long as they were decent about it. Interesting enough not that many years ago I was talking to someone still in Rockford who knew my dad well (died 1986) who said basically 'Your dad was a drunk, which sure aint good....but man he was a hard worker...so was your Mom".

Summers in the upper midwest............ Street after street of nice homes with even nicer back yards paid for through the labor of well paying blue collar jobs. At night the smell of grilling brats and burgers filled the air as neighbors would have multi homes cookouts. Kids playing, men drinking an ice cold Pabst after a hard days work, fresh made potato salad and baked beans to go with those brats,.........thats MY AMERICA! NOTHING like it!

The pride and joy of Rockford when I was a kid was that Rockford had the most land per capita set aside for parks and forest preserves (quality of life) of any place in America and that it was a great place to raise kids...a bit boring and we liked it that way.

BTW.....just so nobody thinks im dead...LOL Leaving for a quick vacation towards the end of this week. Headed south where the alligators play :laugh: Not sure if im going to do any posting ANYWHERE while Im gone accept checking work email. I worked for a company that fished out things that got stuck in a well hole. Some of the smartest people I ever met. We cooked up a side of beef every month like clockwork. I made myself the butcher, I refused to BBQ all them cuts at the same time.

My big turn happened because our family sacrificed so much for the war effort in Iraq, that my wife was so harmed by it, and because it was all for worse than nothing....it made America weaker....and we entered it after we were boldly lied to by our leaders.
