It doesn't kill anyone, but it's not the kind of country I want to live in. I think Trump has done a great disservice by redefining "political correctness." I hate PC, and always have. But I don't consider telling an entire religion to screw off to be an element of PC. To me, generalizing about any group just represents ignorance.

It's in vogue to say screw Islam now, but what if we substituted Jews for Islam? Or blacks? Or women? Or the elderly? Or the Irish, or Italians, or Latinos?

It's how we used to be. If we can't even muster evolving past that basic prejudice, it doesn't speak that well of us, imo.

If you're concerned about how whatever speaks for us, you should focus on how our weakness speaks to the terrorists. Today, from Cuba, Obama went on with the usual list of platitudes when talking about the Brussels attack. We are not winning. The West isn't winning. ISIS winning, as long as they can kill scores of innocent people. And when they do it, they know no one in the West or the US is actually going to DO anything about it.

That doesn't exactly sew fear in the hearts of ISIS. So, a minority of people say F' Islam on a debate board or around the water cooler at work. If enough people worry more about that than the former, a lot more people are going to die before anyone actually confronts ISIS.

We can do it now; or we can wait until they kill more than a score of people.

I don't have a problem w/ a temporary ban that's targeted at that region. I think the standards for shutting down mosques would have to be crystal clear.

I just watched "Trumbo," about the blacklisting in the 40's & 50's. You might think that doesn't relate to this situation, but to me, it's a direct parallel. Fear makes us do some pretty irrational things. People back then thought they were protecting America - but they were really undermining everything that America stands for.

Yes you are right, it could very easily turn into another McCarthyite witch hunt.

1) only one thread started about this terrorist attack and not much participation from the lefties. If it were a shooting of a negro by a white person there would be 10 threads started by lefties and all sorts of hand wringing

There's no good answer for that because Islamophobia exists mainly as an instrument to shut down any criticism of Muslims or Islam. Label someone a bigot and then you can ignore their argument.

And yes, CAIR uses it with aplomb because everyone is scared to death of being labeled a bigot.
