We gave a heads-up to Russia before the attack yesterday so their guys could get out of the way.
Doesn't seem that Russia bothered to pass along that alert to Assad.
Maybe Putin realized he was getting off easy realizing nobody on the planet would agree with Assad's murder of innocents.

They avoided the air strips because they could be easily and quickly replaced. They strategically went for some shelters and buildings at the air base.

59 Tomahawks? man that must be one big bad ass base.
But that's a sound strategy -blowup the infrastructure - I mean you can't call it an airbase if it's just runways

I'm glad it was as measured as it was, I'm not looking to declare war here.

Damage: The photos show that the missiles - which were launched from 150 miles away by US destroyers - were terrifyingly accurate, slamming down on the shelters and ripping up runways

Before the attack: This photo shows the base in October 2016. Russia claimed that only 23 out of the 59 rockets fired actually hit the base, but the US Navy said only one failed to find its mark

This is the aftermath of one of the Tomahawk missile strikes, underneath one of the protective concrete plane shelters. US officials said that 20 Syrian jets were destroyed in the attack

Assad's base in ruins: Dramatic satellite photos reveal how airfield pounded with 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles is 'almost completely destroyed' after punishment for deadly chemical weapon attack

New images from the DoD show how badly the al-Shayrat military airfield was damaged in Thursday's strike
The satellite pictures show damaged and destroyed aircraft shelters and massive blast marks on the ground

Thanks for the photos. There are 6 other plans for destroying Syria's other airbases leftover from the Obama days. They're sitting on the shelf just in case they're needed in the future. Shayrat was chosen first because Intel showed proof received by drones that the planes with the seran attack took off from there.

These pictures are taken from different perspectives and different distances. The after photo shows only the area where the two long strips meet in the bottom right of the before photo.

I gave the link? Look at the compass.
There are numerous photos. DoD photos .The "hangers" were wrecked ( underground shelters) -
but about 1/2 dozen planes weren't hit - the Tomahawks use GPS targeting, and they were off to the side.

The base is pretty much useless -runways or not--again LOOK AT THE LINK

There's no end to the ancillaries in keeping planes up and running and hangers aren't just big places where they keep planes lol.

Assad felt the hit, propaganda to the contrary, notwithstanding.

And yes, Putin is pissy over it.

yeah..but Haley's language is too far saying the Russians need to make a choice..they aint gonna give up on Assad -
not unless there is a beter way for them to stay in Syria

A half dozen antique Syrian planes were destroyed. All the chemical weapons were left intact.

The planes will be replaced by nice shiney new Russian bombers...
Vlad is happy.
His orange puppet has regained some political capital and nothing in Syria has changed...
