We need to go after these businesses hard, enforce e-verify!

Willow Grove-based Asplundh Tree Expert pleaded guilty on Thursday to charges of illegally
recruiting, hiring and employing undocumented immigrants.

The massive company agreed to pay a whopping $95 million in the case, which federal
prosecutors say is the largest payment ever levied in an immigration suit. The money includes
an $80 million criminal forfeiture judgement and $15 million in civil payment.

“This decentralized model tacitly perpetuated fraudulent hiring practices that, in turn,
maximized productivity and profit,” federal prosecutors said in a press release on Thursday.
“With a motivated work force, including unauthorized aliens willing to be relocated and
respond to weather related events around the nation, Asplundh had crews which were easily
mobilized that enabled them to dominate the market. Asplundh provided all the incentives to
managers to skirt immigration law.”

These are the guys who trim trees for the power companies in our area. Doesn’t surprise me that they hire illegals...but I don’t blame the illegals. Glad they’re getting fined.

This should be interesting, there might be a lot of blow back for Republicans, prices are going to go up and businesses will suffer, but I thought this should have been done a long time ago. It's going to force Republicans to do something that allows these illegals to work legally.

Somethings gotta be done. Figure a way for these folks to work legally. Hopefully wages will go up a bit for folks doing this kind of work but bottom line, at least here, we have too many “white” folks who feel they’re too good to do certain jobs so Mexicans come do them. Honestly, if I were in a position to hire I’d hire the Mexican folks here before most white folks. They care more about the job and are much more reliable...less likely to miss work because they have a hang nail or whatever. As you might can tell, I’m pretty down on our 30-something’s around here.
