Alaskans won a 5b settlement which exxon fought for 20 years and had it reduced to 500m. Yea no wonder you assholes don't have jobs requiring an education.

That's your gov't for you. Always looking out for the little guy.

That link I posted, where the congressional republicans whined that Obama was being a chicago gangsta thug for extracting retribution and damages form BP, also said in essence that we should just let this thing work it's way through the courts.

That didn't work out with Exxon, and these congressional republicans know it.

A lot of people who sued exxon in alaska died long before that case was settled for pennies on the dollar.

yeah i know

even at 5 billion a year that is better than 75 million and a hell of a lot better than two decades like exxon...

that's odd. The lefty liberals on the SCOTUS - ginsberg, stevens and breyer - dissented, and sided with the alaskan fishermen against Exxon.

Surprisingly, the rightwing appointees on the court do not appear to be fierce consumer or environmental advocates. Wow, you learn something new every day.

Racheal Maddow is pumping the run against republicans supporting BP in the November elections and now Obertool is picking it up. That dumb slut Blanch Lincoln is on tv saying leave BP alone. The US gov is shaking down BP, that bitch must not be up for re-election.

You know what's also "surprising?" There of those same right-wingers on the Court (Alito, Scalia and Thomas) that thought that it was wrong to punish Exxon so harshly for their fuckups think it's A-OK to incarcerate juvenile offenders for life without parole for crimes other than murder.

You obviously aren't paying attention.... Lincoln just won her run off election in AR and faces a serious threat to losing her seat in November.

Keep spinning your wheels with this idiocy toppy... you and I both know that if that oil is still flowing in a couple of months that the public will focus more on that than the $20b. Which AGAIN, when broken down is about $15k per worker (assuming 10% of the population along the gulf coast is affected by this).

It is a help, but it is not the supreme victory you idiots are proclaiming.

Your jackassery has no bounds. BP has zero legal obligation to put any money anywhere to compensate people. None. If could wait until claims wend their way through the courts all the way to the Supreme Court before it paid a dime. Considering that baseline legal obligation, getting BP to pony up $20 billion is a big fucking deal.
