Asian Pivot Redux

remember the Obama Asian Pivot that never was?

I'm thinking Trump's Asian trip is to tighten up security relationships with the various Asian states/ littoral states
as a counter to N.Korea, but also as a rival to China's equivalent of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)

http://www.smh.com.au/world/china-e...transpacific-partnership-20170123-gtxbi1.html
China is advocating for a 16-nation pact called the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership that excludes the United States and lacks some of the environmental and labour protections Obama negotiated into the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Xi and other Chinese leaders are also looking to fill the US leadership vacuum, taking advantage of Trump's protectionism to boost ties with traditional US allies like the Philippines and Malaysia.

++

One of the big arguments for the USA joining the TPP was that China would use it's propose RCEP
as a security partnership -as well as an economic club

I always thought that a red herring considering traditional US close ties w/Japan/Philippines .
In fact Duarte and Trump get along a lot better then Trump and Obama ( whatever you think of Duarte)

Then there is China's South China Sea "10 dash line" that threatens to engulf the entire region.

South_China_Sea-map-769953-640px.jpg

Trump's task is to unify US/Asian relations under security agreements, while simultaneously establishing
some US bi-lateral trade relations - while keeping China's sanctions tightening upon North Korea.

Not an EZ needle to thread -but joining the TPP for security reasons was too high a price for the USA to pay.

Thanks forthat -I did not know
China is naturally the dominate power - the key for the US is keeping existing security agreements-
and negotiating some bi-laterals,now that the TPP is dead, and China is trying RCEP to replace it.

As I mentioned China can't be ignored (like we do Russia )because of their singular leverage over NK.
It's a fine line Trump has to walk. The good thing is he innately gets this, and his "generals" will guide him-
unless Trump makes one of his fopaux

China and India: The Roots of Hostility
https://thediplomat.com/2017/09/china-and-india-the-roots-of-hostility/
Whether imperial or communist, China has a long history of lashing out at states that hurt its pride and interests.
It seems the so-called Pacific Century may turn out to be just another hundred bloody years in Asia.

In fact, skirmishes and military face-offs have been a regular feature on their contested borders, rife with disputed histories. Numerous pacts and border management mechanisms established over the decades have failed to maintain peace and Asia’s giants have come close to fighting for a second round along their long, disputed Himalayan border at least once a decade since the late 1960s.
Never close, a chill has descended on Sino-Indian ties in recent years over a whole range of issues including
India’s membership in global institutions, territorial disputes, Pakistan-based terror groups, water, trade, maritime, and India’s public opposition to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI, also ‘One Belt, One Road,’ or OBOR) as China embarked upon a path to regional hegemony.

From New Delhi’s perspective, China’s BRI narrative in a sense seeks to rewrite Asian history and shape Eurasia’s future without recognizing India’s historical, cultural, religious, and commercial links to the world. Thus, at a time when the whole world is China’s oyster, India is the only Asian country standing athwart China’s march to glory and greatness. Not surprisingly, the enemy most often spoken of in Beijing’s strategic circles today is India. The censors encourage alarmingly frank discussion of the merits of another war against India.

In particular, China has been concerned about India moving too close to the United States and Japan for Beijing’s comfort.

Trump’s Grueling Asia Trip: 5 Nations, 12 Days
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/03/us/politics/trump-asia-summit.html
President Trump has decided to attend a summit meeting of Pacific Rim leaders in the Philippines on Nov. 14, the White House said on Friday, a decision that will tack an extra day onto his already marathon tour of the region.

Trump attend the East Asia summit, a meeting of leaders from Australia, Japan, China, Russia and other countries that his predecessor, President Barack Obama, had made a priority.

Mr. Trump’s earlier decision to skip the meeting had rattled officials in the region, who warned that it would raise questions about the United States’ commitment to Southeast Asia.

Separately, a spokesman for the Kremlin said that American and Russian officials were discussing a meeting between Mr. Trump and President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, which could occur on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Vietnam, :) before Mr. Trump flies to Manila.

“The importance for international affairs of any contact between the Russian and U.S. presidents can hardly be overestimated,” the spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters on Friday. On Thursday, Mr. Trump’s national security adviser, Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, did not rule out a meeting.

backing out of TPP just means his backers are morons and trump is anti American business.

For the first time in many decades, Asia doesn't have to worry about Trump coming in with criticism of human rights abuses. Trump is practically best friends with Dirty Duterte, and applauded him of summarily executing citizens without due process for drug abuses. But hey! Human rights are a 'quaint' notion and are not REALPOLITIK.

Meanwhile, China is at the peak of their power, and the future is China's to shape with America's waning influence and credibility.

Who gives a fuck? What I said is true....Trump's own words...the only one who matters is me.
you need to cite, and you need to learn what context is.
Trump is saying he's the final authority as POTUS *shocking*
