As she demonstrates with a smile

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Whitman

Investigating officers found that Whitman had visited several UT Austin physicians in the year before the shootings; they prescribed various medications for him. Whitman had seen a minimum of five doctors between the fall and winter of 1965 before he visited a psychiatrist from whom he received no prescription. At some other time he was prescribed Valium by Jan Cochrum, who recommended he visit the campus psychiatrist.[54]

Whitman met with Maurice Dean Heatly, the staff psychiatrist at the University of Texas Health Center, on March 29, 1966.[55] He referred to his visit with Heatly in his final suicide note, writing: "I talked with a Doctor once for about two hours and tried to convey to him my fears that I felt come [sic] overwhelming violent impulses. After one visit, I never saw the Doctor again, and since then have been fighting my mental turmoil alone, and seemingly to no avail."[43]

Heatly's notes on the visit said, "This massive, muscular youth seemed to be oozing with hostility [...] that something seemed to be happening to him and that he didn't seem to be himself."[56] "He readily admits having overwhelming periods of hostility with a very minimum of provocation. Repeated inquiries attempting to analyze his exact experiences were not too successful with the exception of his vivid reference to 'thinking about going up on the tower with a deer rifle and start shooting people.'"[57]
Autopsy

Although Whitman had been prescribed drugs and was in possession of Dexedrine at the time of his death, the toxicology was delayed because Whitman had been embalmed on August 1, after his body was brought to the Cook Funeral Home in Austin. However, an autopsy had been requested in the suicide notes left by Whitman and was then approved by his father.[58]

On August 2, an autopsy was conducted by Coleman de Chenar (a neuropathologist at Austin State Hospital) at the funeral home. Urine and blood were removed to test for traces of amphetamines or other substances.[59][60] During the autopsy, Chenar discovered a "pecan-sized" brain tumor,[61] which he labeled an astrocytoma and which exhibited a small amount of necrosis. These findings were later revised by the Connally Commission: "It is the opinion of the task force that the relationship between the brain tumor and Charles J. Whitman's actions on the last day of his life cannot be established with clarity."[62]

See that's an argument for background checks.

Are you suggesting people should have to submit medical records?

The medical records are already on records.

But yeah I understand what you mean. They shouldn't submit anything. Mental illnesses can be anything. Like depression. We all have been through depression at least one point in our lives.

The solution is elusive.

Again what do you mean by "solution"?

Well if I recall correctly I begun with me discussing the mass shootings at public schools. Uvalde being the recent example. Salvador Ramos was able to purchase an AR-15 on his 18th birthday with zero problem and he went on to rip those little children apart so bad that they had to do DNA tests on them.

What is the solution to that? Gov. Abbott and that piece of shit Cruz didn't care.

We've been doing well and now you're going to start talking crazy? This is what I was talking about before. People want a "solution" but have no idea what that may mean, let alone look like, and then start lashing out at people who they believe are obstacles to the "solution" that they themselves can't even identify. It's not productive.

Sorry if you thought I was talking crazy.

Shit my cat is going crazy on me, climbing on me and biting me. She be horny.

Anyway, yes it seems like there is no solution.

I've always stated that ending War on Drugs will be a beginning to the solution.

Calling cruz a piece of shit is unnecessarily crazy when we have been having a reasonable conversation.

Then if it seems there is no solution how can anyone be annoyed that there is no solution?

How so?

What is wrong with calling Cruz a POS? People have been calling President Biden and Hunter POSs. Also AOC and Omar.

Because everyone is frustrated. Everyone is tired of innocent children being blown apart. Parents and everyone else demand an answer.

Ending War on Drugs will reduce the dependency on drugs and the supply, which reduces the usage of arms.

I am one of them but I have refrained from it in this discussion as it's unnecessary. That's all.

I get it. What's the "answer"? All we did there was change the word. Being frustrated is if no use to anyone. If being frustrated was the "answer" we wouldn't be having g this conversation.

How will the war on drugs end dependence on drugs? It would effect supply for sure but dependence is another matter. There is no war on alcohol and there is plenty of dependence on it.

Okay. I thought Cruz used the horrible tragedy for political reason. Let's just leave it at that. LOL.

I understand. The other countries look at America in horror. They do not have this problem. Clearly something is working.

The Prohibition increased the dependence and helped to spawn the mafias/mobs and to increase the violence, especially guns. It increased the supply of guns.

I'm not saying he is or isn't a piece of shit or that you shouldnt say it I'm saying it's unnecessary in this discussion. Just because we can do something doesnt mean should do it. Besides both sides use the death of kids for political reasons. Believing you have lofty goals for doing it doesnt change that fact.

How other countries view us is irrelevant to me. I honestly couldn't care less. What other countries do.may not even be good for us to do.

I agree about the guns. Dependence? No

It doesn't have to be how it is. We've never had this problem before. When I was a kid, we never had to worry about things like this. Something fundamentally happened and changed.

When I was a kid we didn't have kids on drugs starting at the age of three like we do now! And we did just fine no school shootings

Now we have kids started on crazy drugs at the age of three or so and they shoot up a school when they're in middle school or high school we wonder why

Little Johnny can't pay attention in class or Little Johnny can't get along with other students etc.... Oh well let's put him on some drugs

Okay. It's just hard to contain my anger sometimes.

Well that's another subject. The more forbidden a thing is, the more interesting it is to people.

But that isn't the subject. It's about the supply of guns and drugs.

Drugs, legal or illegal, can cause young kids to go nuts.

I get that but c'mon man! Lol

I know I'm just a stickler when it comes to addiction, dependence, etc etc

Part of the problem is the stigmatization of mental illness. Notice that the suicide rate is higher in the US military precisely for this reason, despite efforts to correct it.

Another problem is a lack of research. Some mental illness can be cured, some can only be treated. It's not a one-size-fits-all problem. Hence the need for more research and treatment options. Big Pharma wants a 100% pill solution but in psychiatry, the best results are a combination of medication and therapy. It doesn't have to be $300/hour one-on-one therapy. Group therapy can be very effective in most cases.

Another aspect is legislation. Everyone knows that it's easier to be put on the No-Fly List than get off it. Putting American citizens onto a "no gun" list and then not having a fair method of removing them is anti-American and also, IMO, a main reason Americans don't want it. They've seen the horror stories of No-Fly Lists and do not trust our government to make it right.

In the military, they always brush off those PTSD sufferers as pussies.
