I see a lot of people talking about how cold it is where they live. Lemme tell ya,...I WISH I had your version of cold. When I woke up this morning I had - 17 below zero,...add wind-chill and we were at minus 30 below zero. Tomorrow we will have a low of -26 below zero, with wind-chill we will be at forty frikkin below zero!. Now us Badgers are used to the cold,...but this is CRAZY cold. I suppose it helps that Im a northern Badger instead of a southern Badger a bit but this there is just no getting used to.

That's pretty crazy...Be safe...Pray for the people and animals who don't have shelter...that's such a huge problem here...

Temp right now. -21 below zero. With wind-chill,....-40 below zero. Schools closed .

I see a lot of other people talking about home heating systems in other threads. IMO by a wide margin the best heating system you can have in your home is a Hydronic boiler. Even the old style where you have wall registers that look like electric heat registers are great but the top of the line is IN FLOOR hydronics. Using hot water Hydronic boiler systems you are heating OBJECTS instead of just the air in the home. In other words......the carpet is 72 degrees, the chair, the couch, the end table, the bed, the everything. Traditional furnaces merely heat the air in the home which cools quickly. As an added bonus a Hydronic system puts out a nice even heat that envelopes the whole home without the dryness associated with furnaces.

I remember a Christmas in the 80s when the temperature was -29° and the highway patrol recommended that people driving any distance use two cars.
In college, I worked the parking lots and in those days parking for students cost of 85¢. That meant using that little change maker on my belt was pumping out 15¢ a couple of hundred times per morning. We were happy when we could put up the 'lot full' sign.
