DOJ To Investigate Arpaio

PHOENIX -- The Justice Department will investigate Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio for possible civil rights violations, according to a letter sent Tuesday.

The letter states that the investigation “will focus on alleged patterns or practices of discriminatory police practices and unconstitutional searches and seizures conducted by the MCSO, and on allegations of national origin discrimination.”

Four congressmen sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano last month, asking them to investigate Arpaio for racial profiling and civil rights violations.

Arpaio said Tuesday he would “welcome the Justice Department,” adding that he’s “not nervous” and “very comfortable” with what he and his deputies are doing to enforce illegal immigration laws.

“Nothing changes. We will continue to do what we’ve been doing,” Arpaio said, when asked if the investigation would change his method of law enforcement.

Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon applauded the Justice Department’s decision, calling it the “right thing to do.” Last year, the mayor also asked the FBI to investigate the sheriff for civil rights violations.

According to the letter from the Justice Department, if the investigation “concludes there are such violations (of civil rights), we will inform you of the findings and attempt to work with the MCSO to remedy any such violations.”

It is unclear when the investigation will begin.
 
So...

You oppose the execution of serial child rapists and killers, claiming that it is "barbaric" to execute them, and yet you wish for the death of a sheriff who supposedly discriminated against violent criminals. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

I will stay on the side of the sheriff until they find something criminal about him....and even then, if the law deems that he did wrong in the sense that he embarrased some poor schmuck criminal by making him wear a pink prison outfit then I'll still be on the side of the sheriff.

But Joe Arpaio has 40,000 outstanding felony warrants rotting on his desk , and violent crimes have soared under his watch. For years he's sought publicity by ridiculing inmates. Now, he's rounding up immigrant detainees and marching them through town to a separate "tent city," complete with electric fences, to allegedly "make room for more."

Arpaio is the kind of sadistic thug that needs to be removed from any position of authority. I don't know what good it does to sign if you don't live in Arizona, but it couldn't hurt and it only takes a few seconds to do it. See what I mean? You get all upset about the government "infringing" on your 2nd Amendment rights but when it comes to the civil rights of Hispanics and Latinos being infringed by the good sheriff here were get the above nonsense.

I'm all for the natural and civil rights of all people, I just wish others were as supporting of mine.

Exactly. Everyone who voted for him is an evil thug that needs to be executed as well. It's justice. It's righteousness.
 
We seriously need to put some teeth into our civil rights legislation. The suits against that evil demagogue arpaio have fined the county a mere 50 million. Marcipiao county SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY MONEY FOR 50 YEARS THEY SHOULD BE SO FUCKING DEEP IN DEBT FROM LAWSUITS. Can't pay the fine? Don't do the crime.
